‘Outlander’ Star Sam Heughan Reveals The Show’s Most Surprising Celebrity Fan
It’s no secret that Outlander has one of the most dedicated fan bases in television. After all, the amount of success the series has achieved so far is in large part due to its dedicated fans. While Outlander fans come from every walk of life, Sam Heughan recently revealed the identity of the show’s most surprising celebrity fan.
“I had dinner with William Shatner last week and I couldn’t believe it. He’s a fan of the show,” Heughan told Vanity Fair. “He’s really funny, and I owe him dinner now. I still can’t believe I met him!”
Heughan’s comments came during Outlander’s premiere this past Monday night. The premiere was held at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. While fans still have a few more days to wait until the series returns to television, Heughan went on to reveal that he is still in awe of how his work on the show has drastically altered his life.
“My life has changed in so many ways because of the show,” Heughan shared. “It’s very odd. I had just come from Los Angeles, and there’s a lot of billboards around the city and on buses and it’s really strange to be driving past and see myself up there. It’s kind of overwhelming, really.”Meanwhile, although Heughan’s life has changed since his role as Jamie Fraser on Outlander, many fans still wonder about his personal life. Naturally, Heughan has been rumored to share a romance with his co-star Caitriona Balfe. Unfortunately for fans, Bustle is reporting that both Heughan and Balfe have denied the relationship rumors.
“We’re not together. It’s funny. We’ve always said from the get go that we’re incredibly great friends. And to have that friendship and that closeness and to be able to get along as we do on set, it’s great that we’re able to get along that well,” Balfe explained. “We’re not together. I’m sorry to break people’s hearts. They like to try to maybe replicate the Claire and Jamie story. But I think it would be difficult for us to work together and be together.”
Real life relationships aside, fans will catch plenty of on-screen romance when Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe return for Outlander’s second season. While fans can’t wait for the premiere of the new season, Heughan recently sat down with The Wrap and hinted at what’s to come.
As fans are well aware, Jamie and Claire are headed to Paris, France for Season 2. With the new setting in mind, Heughan revealed that Jamie and Claire will need some time to adjust to their new environment.“I was very excited to go back, very ready to go back, and then all of a sudden we were hit with this world where we didn’t know where we were,” Heughan shared. “It’s fantastic to be thrust into this world, like, oh my god, who are these people, what is this world? Jamie and Claire have to find their way in this Parisian world and try to understand how they fit in. It was unsettling and great, because that’s sort of exactly what Jamie and Claire were feeling on the inside.”
Of course, Jamie is still dealing with the aftermath of last season’s imprisonment, but at least he has a baby to look forward to. Along with their attempt to prevent the Battle of Culloden, Jamie and Claire are expecting their first child together. With so many challenges ahead, it will be interesting to see how their relationship develops in season two, and whether or not their mission to change history will affect their marriage.
The new season of Outlander premiered April 9 on Starz and is also available OnDemand.
