Kesha Fails: Iggy Azalea And Jennifer Lopez Land In Opposition

Kesha seems to have become a perpetual victim, first suffering at the hands of Dr. Luke and now fighting through the courts to receive even the smallest measure of justice. Even as her fans and other celebrities come together in support of Kesha and her desire to free herself from working under Dr. Luke, the courts are failing to identify with her or to sympathize with her plight. After losing her case against Dr. Luke in a Manhattan proceeding, Kesha is facing yet another New York lawsuit. This second appeal comes after that court determined that Kesha couldn’t be freed from her contract with Dr. Luke. Kesha has filed similar suits in both California and Tennessee.

Is Kesha Dooming Her Own Career?

Even as she faces so many legal battles, Kesha may be doing her career more harm than good by losing focus on her obligations and her music. Morally, Dr. Luke may be evil incarnate to many of Kesha’s fans, but the fact remains that Kesha signed a contract with the music producer, promising to deliver new music under the Dr. Luke label. Kesha’s last single hit the public in 2013 with her last new writing credit published in 2014, so, while she battles Dr. Luke in court, it may be Kesha, herself, who will soon feel the court’s wrath.

“Although Luke’s alleged actions were directed to Kesha, who is female, her claims do no allege that Luke harbored animus toward women or was motivated by gender animus when he allegedly behaved violently toward Kesha… Every rape is not a gender-motivated hate crime,” remarked the judge in the Manhattan trial.

Pop culture expert Cate Meighan suggests that Kesha take all of the emotion and pain she’s experiencing and pour that into a new album, partly to help fulfill her obligations to Dr. Luke’s label and also to reassert herself as a powerful recording artist. These same sentiments are echoed by public relations expert Ronn Torossian, who suggests Kesha act now, before her legal dramas become the only things the public remembers about Kesha.

“Kesha is a very talented artist, but in recent months all we hear about her is litigation. Even if she has been wronged, and harmed, at the end of the day, fans want to listen to her music and not hear about legal sagas,” Torossian said.

Iggy Azalea Supports Kesha, While Jennifer Lopez Sides With Dr. Luke

Amid so much drama, Kesha took a break and spent a day hanging out with one of her closest allies, Iggy Azalea. The pair went horseback riding this week and Azalea was only too happy to share the day of leisure with Twitter followers, showing her support of Kesha as both a friend and as a fellow recording artist.

“Me and the very funny @KeshaRose on defender and biz! #FreeKesha,” Iggy captioned the picture.

Meanwhile, fans took offense to Jennifer Lopez’s new feminist anthem, “Ain’t Your Momma,” upon realizing that the song was produced by Kesha’s accused rapist, Dr. Luke. “Ain’t Your Momma,” which was produced and also co-written by Dr. Luke, melds the iconic sounds of Latin music with a hard-hitting beat in a sung protest against “man-boys” who expect girlfriends to pick up the chores done by their mothers in the past, such as laundry and cooking meals.

Jennifer Lopez’s fans responded almost as soon as the song was released, calling out Jennifer for continuing to associate herself with Dr. Luke, especially when Kesha had just lost another civil suit against him.

“I love @JLo but I will not support a song produced by rapist and monster dr Luke,” tweeted @hurricxne. “Im so disappointed you still worked with him.”

“JLo & Dr. Luke not gettin coins for a song can wait. They live off millions meanwhile Kesha’s struggling. #SaveKesha,” added @thefamewarrior, another Twitter user.

While Jennifer Lopez may not be sympathizing with Kesha’s battles and suffering, many other recording artists are standing behind Kesha in support. In addition to Iggy Azalea, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, and Adele all publicly support Kesha.
