Jennifer Lopez is teaming-up with a fellow Jennifer for a pretty surprising duet.
Just days after Lopez dropped her new single “Ain’t You Mama,” it sounds like Jennifer may be preparing to make a bit of a musical departure after recently hitting the studio with someone fans probably won’t expect.
Speaking out to WYCD radio this week, American Idol mentor and Big Machine Label Group head Scott Borchetta confirmed that Lopez has actually recently teamed up with Jennifer Nettles, who rose to fame as half of the country duo Sugarland, for her new album.
Borchetta dished some major details about the new song on the radio show, which he described as being a “mind blower” packed with “attitude” and “power” from the two Jennifers.
Admitting that he “hooked up” Nettles with Lopez and her manager, Scott told the radio show that he urged Jennifer Nettles, who is signed to his label, to seek out Jennifer Lopez after the country star admitted that she was looking to get a little Latin and sing in Spanish on her new album, Playing With Fire .
Borchetta told WYCD that the two then wrote a song together and hit the studio to record what he described as “a mind blower” song. “This is such a cool record,” Scott continued of Nettles and Lopez’s upcoming duet. “The two of them, you talk about some attitude and some power.”
But while Scott didn’t dish any further details on the song, Jennifer Nettles is also helping fans to piece together the details of their new song.
Nettles previously confirmed that she hit the studio with the American Idol judge in a new interview with Rare Country on April 3, where she played coy about the song but admitted that the track, which may mix country and Latin influences, has a “good message.”
“That is about all that I will say right now,” Jennifer told Rare Country. She reluctantly added, “I think that it sends a good message. It is a ton of fun — that I know.”
Though Nettles stayed pretty tight-lipped on the duet in the new interview, she did confirm that the two had written the song together and described their musical team-up as being “a little collaborative duet” that will be featured on her upcoming release.
Jennifer Lopez also hinted that she and the “Stuck Like Glue” singer were up to something on her Instagram page on March 31 where she told her more than 41 million followers that she and the other Jennifer had a “great afternoon” together.
“Jennifer x2!!!” Lopez captioned the photo with her fellow Jennifer, “Great afternoon with this amazing artist!!! #JenniferNettles.” Lopez then added the hashtag “#staytuned,” before seemingly appearing to give fans a hint at the possible title of the song, which Scott confirmed is “mostly in English” but also features some lines in Spanish.
Jennifer coyly added the hashtag “#myhouseisyourhouse” to the photo, as well as the same phrase in Spanish “#micasaestucasa.”
Nettles shared the same photo on her own social media site that same day, writing in the snap’s caption, “Thank you sweet mama for a beautiful afternoon. @jlo #staytuned #micasaestucasa.”
Jennifer then shared another photo from her and Lopez’s studio day, which showed her and Lopez spending some quality time together in the studio with country songwriter and producer Shane McAnally, songwriter Josh Osborne and producer, Julio Reyes. “This group of magic makers,” Jennifer Nettles wrote.
Jennifer Nettles’ new album Playing With Fire is set for release on May 13.
