As reported by Brides, smoke bomb weddings are one of the hottest trends for 2016, due to the striking colors that smoke bombs can add to wedding photos. Not only are smoke bombs the hot new trend for weddings, but the methods used that those colorful smoke bombs are caught in photos and videos are also a trend themselves.

Also called smoke grenades, the colorful smoke bombs can been seen in a variety of hues in social media wedding photos.
More brides and grooms are opting to use photographers who employ drones to capture both videos and still photos of the weddings. As was seen in a viral wedding photo recently, a groom was blocked from seeing his bride walk down the aisle due to all the wedding attendees who used their smartphones to take photos, and leaned into the aisle to do so. With a drone, photographers can capture additional videos and photos, not only of the colorful smoke bombs, but also other vantage points of the wedding that might not otherwise be seen from the ground.
Along with the smoke bomb wedding trend, there has been an increase in requests for old-fashioned film photography — the kind that features photos developed in darkrooms. There’s something about film photography that isn’t as harsh or crisp as digital photography, which can add to the romantic and winsome look of the photos.

As seen in the above photo, which is tagged with both the “smoke bomb” hashtag on Instagram and with the 35mm film label, the white smoke bomb behind the bride in the woods, coupled with the film photography, delivers a soft and romantic feel.

While some couples opt for a single color of smoke, others go for multiple hues, mixed together. Some choose muted shades, whilst others use deep and rich colors for their smoke bomb weddings. And some of those brides and grooms are choosing editorial-style wedding photos that look like they came directly from a stylized magazine shoot. This generally involves light that flatters the couple and cleaned up images that appear Vogue-worthy.

As seen in the above photo, it isn’t always the bride and/or groom holding the smoke bomb. Sometimes other members of the wedding party hoist the smoke bombs high above in the air so that the colorful smoke can float around the new bride and her husband.

Also called “colored smoke,” many times the smoke bombs feature purely white smoke billowing around the bride and groom in a dream-like manner that adds to the intrigue and beauty of the wedding day.

As witnessed by some smoke bomb wedding photos, there are times that the smoke has overwhelmed the subjects of the photos and made them nearly disappear behind the clouds of smoke, which is not likely the intention or effect the brides and grooms are likely going for in their wedding photos.
