WWE News: Chris Jericho Ranks The ‘WrestleMania’ Matches & Hints At The End Of His Current Run

You can make the case that this latest run from Chris Jericho has seen some of his finer work since he’s become a part-timer who returns for a couple months at a time. He can’t please everyone, though, as he’s quick to point out that whenever he wins a match, he’s burying the opposing talent. When he loses, he’s a glorified jobber who is only there to put younger talents over. Since returning to the WWE at the beginning of the year, his only major feud has involved AJ Styles. And Jericho has shared the wins and losses with the Phenomenal 1.

Jericho ended up defeating Styles at WrestleMania to the surprise of many. It likely concludes their rivalry that spanned more than two months. One night later, the loss didn’t seem to hurt Styles, as he earned his way into the Payback main event with a match against Roman Reigns for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Few have the experience and wherewithal to be able to credibly rank the matches at a certain event like Chris Jericho. On his podcast, Talk is Jericho, and as transcribed by Wrestling Inc, Y2J did just that. He didn’t go as far as to list them one through 11, but he did put his bout with Styles in with two others as the top three matches in Dallas.

“I had a great time working with AJ Styles all four of our matches and the last one at WrestleMania was exactly what we wanted. And especially after the amazing spectacle of the seven-man Intercontinental [Championship] ladder match. Our mission was to bring it down a bit and then build it back up with wrestling. And we did that. It was one of the best matches on the show. I don’t mind saying that. I think our match, the seven-man ladder match, and I think the women’s match were the three highlights of that show.”

That seemed to the general consensus from wrestling pundits and journalists as well. But to hear it from Jericho himself adds a little more credence, even if he gave himself an extra pat on the back. There was less of a debate the next night on RAW, when the fatal four way to determine the new number one contender easily ranked as the top match of the evening. And Jericho concurred.

“The main event match with me, and [Kevin] Owens, AJ, and the returning Cesaro is another one of my favorites. Two five-star matches in a row, whatever you want to call them, two great matches in a row. And four-ways are not easy to do, but we put it together and banged it out.”

So Styles moves on with an elevated push to the spotlight, leaving question marks for Jericho’s next step. The Inquisitr reported on Thursday that Y2J was originally slotted to face Dean Ambrose at WrestleMania, and now that angle may play out at Payback instead. He’s also laid the groundwork for a potential program with Shinsuke Nakamura down the line, and he is scheduled to wrestle the Japanese star in July in Japan. So will his current run last until then? Longer? Or will he be wrapping things up before a midsummer return?

“For all you jack offs that think you can predict what my future is, I’m not going anywhere. Am I going to be here next week? Yeah. Am I going to be here one more month? I’m not going to tell you. You’re just going to have to wait and see.”

Chris Jericho has firmly planted himself as a heel who can work with any of the up-and-coming babyface mid-carders. Rumored feuds with Ambrose and Nakamura, as well as potential programs with Cesaro and Sami Zayn, would provide many highlights for the creator of the Highlight Reel.
