According to a report from First Post , the Android Marshmallow update for OnePlus One was supposed to be available Q1 2016. But apparently, it failed to roll out as planned. Aside from OnePlus One, the smartphone company is also reportedly hard at work to release Android 6.0 Marshmallow for its newer smartphones. For instance, a beta version of Oxygen OS 3.0 has been rolled out for the One Plus 2 devices already. The post noted that Oxygen OS 3.0 is based on Google’s latest iteration of its mobile operating system.
Google’s Android Marshmallow comes with some notable new features such as Doze, which helps to increase the battery life of the smartphone by automatically putting it on sleep mode when not in use. Another highlight of Android’s latest iteration is Now On Tap .
The official Android website described the feature as follows.
“Now on Tap anticipates what you need in the moment. With a simple tap, you can get cards with useful information and apps that feed your need to know.”
For OnePlus One users who couldn’t wait for the official Android Marshmallow release, Team Android shared a custom ROM update that is based on the firmware. TurboROM, as described in the post, is a brand new custom firmware that utilizes Google’s Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS. One of the differences of the custom ROM from the official stock firmware is the presence of customization options available that OnePlus One users can use to modify and personalize their smartphones. A smooth, fast, and stable performance can also be expected upon installing Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow TurboROM firmware.
Since flashing a custom firmware is an unofficial method to update any smartphone’s OS, OnePlus One owners are advised to be extra careful when using the TurboROM. There are several pre-requisites to ensure a safe and proper installation process of the Android Marshmallow update. For instance, there should be enough battery level before flashing the custom ROM. It is always recommended to have at least 80 percent power before proceeding with the firmware update.
Another thing to secure is a proper backup of all the data and settings stored on the OnePlus One unit. Installing an unofficial Marshmallow firmware can wipe out the phone’s entire memory, thus, the need for a backup. Experts suggest the use of recovery tools such as ClockWorkMod or TWRP when making OnePlus One’s backup.
Installing TurboROM on OnePlus One will also entail connecting the smartphone to a computer, hence, appropriate USB drivers should be installed to the PC. Furthermore, USB Debugging mode should also be enabled to prevent connection issues.
OnePlus One was initially released to the market in June 2014, according to GSM Arena . The smartphone with a 5.5-inch display and a screen resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels arrived at launch with Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS. Currently, the smartphone can be officially updated to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. As for the phone’s other specs, OnePlus One is packed with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 SoC, a Quad-core 2.5 GHZ Krait 400 CPU, and Adreno 330 for its GPU. It has 3 GB RAM and options available for the internal memory storage are 16 GB and 64 GB.
