Huawei P9 Officially Set For April 16 Release Date In Asia & Europe

Huawei P9’s official release date has been revealed. The Chinese tech giant’s latest flagship is expected to hit the shelves next week.

According to TechRadar, the official release of Huawei P9 in Asia and Europe is firmly slated on April 16. The recent unveiling of the newest iteration of the company’s mobile device was held in London, and as Wall Street Journal pointed out, the Huawei P9 “is designed to challenge Apple and Samsung.” Richard Yu, a Huawei executive, described their 2016 flagship as “slimmer than an iPhone 6s and slimmer than S7.”

Among the specs and features to expect from Huawei P9 upon its official release is its dual camera sensor that is developed in collaboration with Leica Camera AG. As cited on BBC, Francisco Jeronimo, IDC’s research director for European mobile devices, said that “Leica is one of the strongest brands in photography, so having an association with them should make users believe that the quality of the pictures should be good.”

The 5.2-inch smartphone, according to the Verge, is equipped with a 12MP camera together with another “monochrome 12-megapixel module.” The post explained that these two camera sensors functioning together will be able to enhance contrast in images by 50 percent. The smartphone can also take in three times the light information through Huawei P9’s double-camera system, the report noted.

BBC also shared that with this innovative camera feature of the Huawei P9, it can deliver more striking photos with shallow depth of fields, which are usually expected from bigger lenses. The BBC explained further.

“This is made possible by the fact that the phone’s two lenses capture slightly different views, and built-in software can analyse the differences to deduce depth information. Alternatively, the files can be exported in the RAW file format for editing on a PC.”

The publication also cited analysts’ insights that the dual camera feature “could help Huawei promote itself as a premium brand and expand its market share.”

Furthermore, Vlad Savov, of the Verge, who was able to get his hands on the Huawei P9 prior to launch, further described the smartphone saying that it is “slim, well built, performs well, and the dual-camera system isn’t trying to push any unnecessary gimmicks.”

Some of the notable specs of the Huawei P9 are its 3000mAh battery capacity, an aluminum unibody case, and a USB-C port, Engadget reported. Under the hood, it has a Huawei-manufactured octa-core Kirin 955 chipset. The standard model comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB internal memory.

Aside from the Huawei P9 release, there’s another variant set to arrive in the market. Tech enthusiasts can also look forward to the 5.5-inch Huawei P9 Plus. The Verge noted some of the variant’s remarkable specs such as 4GB RAM, 64GB default internal storage, 3400 mAh battery, and Super AMOLED display with 1080p screen resolution. The Chinese model gets a 128GB variant for Huawei P9 Plus.

In addition to these, the Huawei P9 Plus is also equipped with a Press Touch technology, which makes the screen pressure sensitive. The larger variant also features an IR blaster. Huawei P9 Plus is scheduled for a May release, both in Europe and Asia.

The price for Huawei P9 is expected to be more or less £490 or $690, while the Plus variant might get a price tag worth £549 or about $775.
