Cameron Diaz Opens Up About Husband Benji Madden
Cameron Diaz is finally opening up about her husband, Benji Madden. The pair had a whirlwind romance before reports broke that the pair were engaged. A wedding soon followed, and since then, aside from some Instagram posts, the two have been hush-hush about their romance and marriage.
Now, a year into their marriage, Cameron Diaz is opening up about her relationship with Benji Madden. The two met several times before they coupled up, so it wasn’t exactly love at first sight. When Diaz first met Benji Madden, she was still in a relationship with Justin Timberlake.
Opening up about how different her perspective is on her past loves, Diaz told Andy Cohen on his SiriusXM show that everything is different now that she’s met the love of her life.
After Cohen mentioned that she’s dated “a lot of hot guys,” Diaz said, “You know what? Nothing matters now that I have my husband. Like, I don’t even remember any of that.”
She continued, “And that’s the thing. That’s how I know he’s my husband. No one compares. Everything else just kind of washes and slips away. You realize, like, ‘Oh, right. This is what the real thing is. This is what real love is. This is what real commitment and devotion is. This is the person that you build your life with.'”
As for when she met him, Diaz said that she noted he was “hot,” but for obvious reasons, nothing came of the attraction until years down the line. At the time, Diaz was friends with Nicole Richie, whose husband is Benji’s twin brother, Joel Madden. The pair locked eyes again when Joel invited Benji over to Cameron’s house for a BBQ, and that’s when they had the meeting that sealed the deal. Diaz explained everything that led up to them meeting.
“I knew Nicole (Richie) and Joel for a couple years before I met Benji. They were over for a barbecue and Joel said, ‘Hey, can my brother come over?’ And I said, ‘Of course, this is family.’ And then (Benji) walked in the door and I was like, ‘You!'”
Diaz’s appearance on Cohen’s radio show was to promote The Longevity Book, which is about growing older and being proud of your body. In it, Diaz writes a heartfelt dedication to her husband Benji Madden.
“I never knew what love was until I found you. How did I ever live without your love, your friendship, your brilliant mind, your genius sense of humor, and your enormous, loving, beautiful heart?”
She continued, “Thank you for being my best friend, my teacher, my partner in life. You inspire me every day with your courage and devotion. Thank you for all the support and encouragement in this book and everything in life. I love you forever and ever.”
Madden has been supporting his wife in her writing endeavor via Instagram with a few posts.
Almost three months ago, Madden sang Cameron’s praises for her new book. At the time, he captioned the cover, “I Couldn’t be more proud of my Bad Ass wife?????? She wakes up everyday on a mission to try and make the world a better place. I’m always amazed by the courage, strength and vulnerability she shows, relentlessly encouraging other women to love themselves. It has been amazing to get to watch her journey with her New book!”
