‘Fifty Shades Darker’ Star Jamie Dornan Slams Rumors He Has ‘Lackluster Chemistry’ With Dakota Johnson

Despite getting off to a promising start, it appears as though Fifty Shades Darker has been delayed yet again. The movie has been in production in Vancouver over the past few weeks, yet reports of a lack of chemistry between Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson have caused further delays. What does Dornan have to say about it?

According to Movie News Guide, Dornan and Johnson have had difficulty getting on the same page for the Fifty Shades of Grey sequel. Although both stars are returning for their roles as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, their problems in the chemistry department have created a stressful environment for director James Foley.

Fifty Shades Darker is Foley’s first movie in the hit franchise following Sam Taylor-Johnson’s departure after Fifty Shades of Grey. Apparently, Foley is trying his best to get every scene perfect, and Dornan’s chemistry issues with Johnson have caused the director to film more shots than originally anticipated.

Although it is unknown who is the source of the chemistry woes, it is believed that Dornan is having trouble focusing on the task at hand because of his newborn baby. Dornan recently had a second kid with his wife, Amelia Warner, and has been juggling his time between work and family duties.

In fact, Movie News Guide is also reporting that Dornan is currently sharing his time between Vancouver and his home in London. Not only has this put added stress on the Fifty Shades of Grey star, but it has also affected his relationship with Warner.

While Warner is left to attend to their new baby at home, the issue of Dornan’s involvement in the sexual drama has also been hard for her to deal with. Not only is Warner disturbed by her husband’s involvement in the erotic film, but she is also worried about Dornan’s steamy interactions with Johnson.

“The stars put their all into the tense scene, walking side-by-side with their faces bearing looks of consternation,” an inside source told the outlet. “Dakota and Jamie were seen sharing a sweet smooch earlier this month while shooting Fifty Shades Darker. They were also spotted filming a much more intense scene on Thursday in Vancouver, Canada—one that is iconic to fans of the books.”

Despite the reports, Dornan has remained adamant that he is not having any sort of chemistry problems with Johnson. So far, producers have yet to confirm any recent delays, which further backs up Dornan’s story.

Meanwhile, fans can expect a much different movie when the sequel finally hits theaters next year. According to Movie Pilot, Johnson has revealed that the sequel is more like a thriller than an erotic drama and that fans can expect some fairly intense sex scenes in Fifty Shades Darker.

“The story is sort of like a thriller now, and it gets kind of scary… it’s awesome. [The sex scenes] involve a lot of specific movement, choreography, which is really interesting to me,” Johnson explained. “It doesn’t ever get easy. It’s not like I’m like, ‘Let’s do this!'”

In addition to Christian’s pursuit of Ana, the new film will introduce a number of villains this time around. This includes the likes of Elena Lincoln, Jack Hyde, and Leila Williams, all of whom have interesting ties to Christian’s past.

Of course, fans still have a while to wait before the release of the sequel. If the cast and crew can avoid further delays, then the movie should still premiere on schedule.

Fifty Shades Darker is set to open in theaters on February 10, 2017, followed by the release of Fifty Shades Freed a year later.
