Jace And Clary Are Reunited With Their Parents In The ‘Shadowhunters’ Season Finale [Spoilers]
Shadowhunters concluded its first season on Monday, April 5, and fans have been left reeling, wondering what could possibly happen next. The finale picked up right where the last episode left off, with Clary and Jace trying to figure out how they’ll save their mother Jocelyn from the spell she put herself under. They’re also still trying to come to terms with the fact that they’re siblings. Awkward.
But as Jace said before, Shadowhunters don’t have time for feelings, so ignoring their awkward family situation, they set out to find Simon so they can get Camille and find the Book of White, the book of spells that contains the spell that will set Jocelyn free. Meanwhile, Alec is still dealing with the repercussions of not only calling off his wedding but also kissing Magnus, a Downworlder, in front of a room full of Shadowhunters and his mother who warns Alec that Magnus has done some shady things in the past and he’s not to be trusted.
When it comes to trust, however, Alec and the other Shadowhunters have bigger fish to fry than Magnus. Instead they need to worry about their fellow Shadowhunter, Hodge Starkweather, who stole the Mortal Cup after the botched wedding. Although Alec, Izzy, and Jace didn’t want to believe their mentor could betray them, the video footage doesn’t lie.
Jace is rightfully furious and sets out to find Hodge and Valentine, hoping to put a stop to Valentine once and for all. While Jace and Alec set out on that mission, Clary, Simon, and Izzy pay a visit to the vampires to try to get to Camille. Of course, Raphael, the vampire in charge, isn’t going to just give them Camille. As far as Raphael’s concerned she’s a prisoner and should remain as such. Thankfully, Izzy, Simon, and Clary have a plan and trick Raphael long enough to break Camille out.

But nothing is as easy as it seems for these Shadowhunters. Although they have Camille, she refuses to take them to the Book of White without having Simon sign a contract that states he asked to be turned and the only person that can draw up the form is Magnus, who just happens to be Camille’s ex. Against Clary’s better judgement, Simon agrees to Camille’s plan.
On the other side of the city, Jace has found Hodge and cuts off his hand in retaliation for Hodge’s betrayal. Unfortunately, for Jace and the other Shadowhunters, Hodge already gave Valentine the cup and Valentine has begun his plan to create new Shadowhunters so he can have his own Shadowhunter army. And despite Luke and Alec’s warnings Jace can’t help but feel like he’s just as evil as Valentine and decides to take Hodge and pursue his father on his own.
With Jace gone, Alec goes to Magnus’ house to help the other Shadowhunters find the Book of White. Instead, what Alec finds is his kind of boyfriend, Magnus, lip locked with Camille. Of course, it wasn’t really Magnus’ fault. Camille kissed him. But Alec doesn’t know that and it forces Alec to question their already fragile relationship. But for now Alec has bigger issues.

After Magnus finishes making the contract, Camille leads everyone to her apartment but makes Simon sign the form before telling them where the Book of White is. Apparently Camille doesn’t actually know where it is and leaves the Shadowhunters to look for it themselves. Thankfully, Clary and Simon are a dynamic duo and figure out one of the cookbooks is actually the Book of White in disguise.
They grab the Book of White but don’t have a chance to escape before Valentine shows up. Earlier, Jace thought he found where his father was but it turned out Valentine was actually in pursuit of the other Shadowhunters the whole time. Jace arrives at Camille’s apartment and Valentine has Clary, Simon, Magnus, Alec, and Izzy trapped by his Shadowhunters. Feeling like he has no other option, Jace agrees to go with Valentine, despite everyone’s protests.

Still, one good thing did come from this episode. With the Book of White, the Shadowhunters were finally able to wake up Jocelyn.

Fans will just have to wait until next season to see if Jocelyn and Clary will be enough to find Valentine and his Shadowhunter army before it’s too late.
Shadowhunters returns for Season 2 in 2017.
