‘Dexter’ Return To Showtime Rumored: If Showrunners Bring Series Back As a Mini-series, Is Michael C Hall Returning?
It’s no secret that Dexter fans cannot wait to see Showtime bring the crime drama back, and they have made it no secret that they would do almost anything to see that happen. They have dedicated Facebook groups to the cause and spend countless hours tweeting about the show.
Dexter ended in 2014 after 8 seasons, when Michael C Hall, who portrayed Dexter Morgan, decided that he wanted to pursue other opportunities for a while. At the time, he vowed he wasn’t interested in portraying Dexter ever again, and challenged Showtime to recast the role if they wanted to continue with the series.
Screen Crush reported that Showtime showrunners claimed that they are interested in reviving the series. There have been recent reports that Michael C Hall may be interested in returning to the role, after all. When asked if he’d go back to the role, he didn’t say no, like previous interviews. Hall replied that he was willing to work with Showtime if and when they are ready to film the award-winning series. For Dexter fans, it sounded like he was confirming he has spoken to Showtime about the show.
“‘Dexter’ is the one show that I would think about [continuing]. It’s a question of when the timing is right. If there’s a willingness to do it, I would certainly listen. Certainly I’d look at ‘Dexter.'”

David Nevins stated that he would commit to another Dexter show if Jennifer Carpenter and Michael C Hall would return. He also revealed that he’d need to work with the writing team to come up with something different and fresh because he would want to change the show completely. Nevins doesn’t want it to continue the path the show was going, and killing Dexter was not the answer. He ended it with he would get with his writing team to brainstorm for an idea, and possible time frame to resurrect Dexter Morgan.
“It would have to involve Michael. I would only do it with Michael … It remains to be seen if they’re going to want to do it, if I’m going to want to do it. They never felt like killing Dexter is the right end. I think that show is that character. If we were to do it, I would want to do Dexter in a new concept and configuration. I would want the show to feel different and not just be a continuation of the old show.”
The only idea so far that Showtime has revealed is that they considered bringing it back as a miniseries. The writers weren’t sure about committing to the show for a whole season; however, admitted they were considering a mini-series run. They needed to work on a few details that have made Dexter’s return a nearly impossible task. For example, if Jennifer Carpenter (Deb Morgan) would return, how would they explain her death on the series finale? And, how would they bring Dexter back from life as a lumberjack?

My News LA reported that Showtime isn’t denying Dexter’s return, but the series hasn’t gotten a release date either. It is great news for the fans that Showtime is open to bringing the show back, and it appears that Michael C Hall and Jennifer Carpenter may be on board for, at least, a mini-series.
Dexter fans, would you be happy with a mini-series bringing Dexter back for four to six new episodes? Do you think they will ever give in and bring the show back?
