NFL Rumors: Joe Flacco Plans Huge NFL Season For Mike Wallace, Fantasy Football Owners
NFL rumors predict big things from Mike Wallace in the 2016 season. These NFL rumors come from Joe Flacco, who predicts that the new receiver with the Baltimore Ravens is going to put up big numbers. A report from NBC Sports quotes Flacco as the quarterback shows his excitement at the Ravens acquiring Wallace. This is a big deal, especially for fantasy football owners, as it could lead to some big numbers for Wallace during the 2016 NFL season.
“I plan on him having a huge impact. I think he’s a talented guy. He can run, he can catch, he can do a lot of things. I’m planning on him coming in here and having a big impact on our football team and helping us win a lot of games.”
The Minnesota Vikings released Wallace at the beginning of the 2016 NFL offseason, allowing him to sign a free agent deal with the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens gave him a two-year, $11.5 million deal that includes a $4.5 million signing bonus and $4.5 million in guaranteed money. It works out to an annual salary of $5.75 million for Wallace, who has a dead cap hit of $4.5 million this year. It’s a low-risk contract for the team and it gives the 29-year-old receiver a chance to bounce back in his career.
Last season with the Vikings, Mike Wallace appeared in all 16 games for the team. He caught just 39 passes for 473 yards, though, putting him far from the numbers that earned him a huge free agent contract in the 2013 NFL offseason. There had been a number of NFL rumors about which team Wallace would sign with, but he ended up going with the Baltimore Ravens. Wallace stated that one of the deciding factors was as opportunity to play with Flacco, who might be ready to reward him with a big year statistically.During the 2010 NFL season, Wallace caught 60 passes for 1,257 yards and 10 touchdowns. He followed that up with 72 catches for 1,193 yards and eight touchdowns in 2011. It was those stats with the Pittsburgh Steelers that earned him a spot on the AFC Pro Bowl team. It also enamored Wallace with fantasy football owners, who began taking him in earlier rounds. That promise was not fulfilled during two seasons with the Miami Dolphins and he fell off even more during his season with the Minnesota Vikings.
The most recent NFL mock drafts are split on how the Ravens will improve during the 2016 NFL Draft. In fact, a new report from NFL.com has four experts predicting three different players heading to Baltimore with the No. 6 selection. Two have Ohio State defensive end Joey Bosa, one has Oregon defensive end DeForest Buckner, and one has Notre Dame offensive tackle Ronnie Staley. It’s pretty easy to guess who Flacco would like the team to target after the offense had a rough time in 2015.
For the 2016 NFL season, the Ravens have several receivers who will be battling it out in camp. Under contract are Steve Smith, Mike Wallace, Kamar Aiken, Breshad Perriman, Marlon Brown, and Michael Companaro. It is unclear how Wallace fits into the rotation of receivers, but he has been used most often on deep routes. This could be where Joe Flacco plans to hook up with him often next year. But are there enough receptions to go around?Updated Super Bowl 51 odds have improved for the Baltimore Ravens since the team signed Mike Wallace. The team is still considered a long-shot at 30-to-1 odds, but it is better than the 40-to-1 odds the Ravens had at the beginning of the NFL offseason. There are likely to be even more NFL rumors about the team as it tries to continue improving this offseason, including how the team will address the need of an edge rusher, an inside linebacker, and several offensive linemen.
