Arian Foster is one of the biggest names available on the free agent market at this point in time and there haven’t been too many teams showing interest in him just yet. The Miami Dolphins are one of the only teams to be seriously doing their homework on him, but that will change as the offseason continues.
While Foster is still going to look at other options, there are many reasons why he should decide to sign with the Dolphins.
Miami is on the verge of being a serious contender in the AFC. They have made major additions to their defense in the past couple of years and their offense is a piece or two away from being lethal. Ryan Tannehill hasn’t stepped up and shown that he can be a legitimate franchise quarterback, but he has shown flashes of that star potential.
Jarvis Landry is one of the best wide receivers in the game and the Dolphins have other dangerous weapons including Kenny Stills and DeVante Parker. Lamar Miller left for the Houston Texans in free agency , which leaves the hole open at the running back position for Foster.
Jason Parker of FanSided.com opined that there are five reasons the Dolphins should sign Foster . He is 100 percent correct in his opinion, and the Dolphins getting Foster would make them an intriguing threat for the New England Patriots in the AFC East.
There are countless reasons why the Dolphins should sign Foster, but what reasons can be given to prove that Foster should sign with the Dolphins.
Last season with the Texans, Foster once again struggled with injuries. He was able to play in just four regular season games and carried the football 63 times for 163 yards and a touchdown. During the 2012 season, when he played all 16 games, Foster broke out with 1,424 yards and 15 touchdowns to show a bit of his full potential.
At 29-years-old, Foster is looking for a chance to prove that he is still one of the best backs in the NFL. Miami can give him that opportunity and it would be the definition of a low risk, high reward type of deal. Foster may not end up giving them star production, but there is also the chance that he would have huge numbers in a new situation.
If the Dolphins truly want to compete with the best in the AFC, they have to go out and take big risks.
Foster would be wise to sign with the Dolphins for many different reasons. First of all, he would be the automatic starter and would have every opportunity to get back on track. Miami’s offense would suit his game plan very well with Adam Gase’s offense catering to dual-threat backs.
Secondly, Foster would be joining a team on the cusp of breaking back into the postseason. Helping them get there would be a big step towards getting back to being one of the more respected backs in the league.
Looking ahead at the 2016 season, there are not too many other teams who are in need of a back as much as Miami. Gase cannot afford to sit around and hope that Jay Ajayi can put up big numbers this year. The franchise knows that bringing in an established veteran running back is the way to go.
Both sides need each other and it wouldn’t be shocking to see them end up signing a deal in the future.
A meeting has already taken place between the two parties, which is a sign that there is mutual interest. Foster is expected to take more meetings, but Miami being the first team shows their interest. That will mean something to Foster as the process continues.
Do you think that Arian Foster should sign with the Miami Dolphins to start the next chapter of his career? Could he be the missing piece for the Dolphins in 2016?
