Chris Meloni Shares Why Benson And Stabler Never Dated In ‘Law & Order: SVU’

Now that Chris Meloni is gone from Law & Order: SVU, it looks like Benson and Stabler will never get together. A lot of viewers wanted to see Chris Meloni’s character in a relationship with Mariska Hargitay’s character. E! Online shared what Chris Meloni had to say about why they never went there in his recent interview on In the Actor’s Studio. Meloni and Hargitay worked together on the show for 12 seasons and were obviously very close. Halfway through season 11 of the show, Chris Meloni decided to leave the series and move on to other things.

Chris Meloni and Mariska Hargitay got along really well. They have even been seen together since he left the show. He shared how things were working together.

“She was always ready for anything new…There was always an unspoken shorthand to what we were doing. That makes it just so much easier, and off camera as well. There’s a lot to be said for that when you’re working with someone for 16 hours a day, you better get along when the cameras aren’t rolling as well as when it is. That was priceless, I think for both of us.”

As Chris Meloni shared, Stabler and Benson had a lot of physical and emotional tension. It was obvious that they had at least considered taking things to the next level. So why did they never hook up? He doesn’t feel like it would have worked for these two to be together.

Here is what Chris Meloni revealed.

“That I think they always knew would be the death knell of that relationship. I think they needed to keep that line taut and very clear…Keep the tension, never cross it.”

When it comes to Chris Meloni and Mariska Hargitay ever getting together on Law & Order: SVU, he is now gone from the show, so that would never happen. Rumors have flown that he would end up being back on the show again, but the rumors are flying that he could come back again. Not long ago, the Inquisitr shared the news that Chris Meloni says he won’t be coming back. Meloni shared that he heard the rumor along with everyone else, but he honestly isn’t sure where it came from. Meloni hasn’t heard anything about this actually becoming a reality.

Right now you can catch Chris Meloni on the new show Underground on WGN. Chris doesn’t think the show will end because he is gone, but the fans know it will never be the same without him.

The Huffington Post shared that earlier in March was when Chris Meloni and Mariska Hargitay reunited to spend time together once again. They were in New York City and shared a photo together. After spending that much time with each other on the show, there is no way that they would just forget about their friendship and move on.

Honestly, a lot of fans wanted Stabler and Benson to become a couple, but it may have been for the best that they never went there. They left it with the two still having their chemistry but never taking it to the next step at all.
