Planetside 2 Begins Beta – Sony Reveals More Game Details In New Video
After a short delay of a week, the Planetside 2 beta is now underway. On Monday, August 6, 2012, the beta invites began rolling out for Sony Online Entertainment’s new MMOFPS (Massively Multiplayer Online First Person Shooter).
Online gamers were mildly disappointed last week, when SOE’s John Smedley announced that the beta would be delayed to allow developers a few more days to polish the highly anticipated FPS. Gamers were already chomping at the bit to get a hands-on look at Planetside 2, after Sony released a three minute long CGI trailer that could have been mistaken for a major Hollywood motion picture. The video, released on July 25, 2012, was, without a doubt, one of the most awesome gaming videos ever produced.
In addition to announcing the beta, SOE also released a new YouTube video that features Creative Director Matt Higby and Senior Art Director Tramell Isaac, “who provide intel on the latest and greatest happenings of PlanetSide 2 including the recent community event, the start of Beta and tech testing, as well as additional details on the light assault class.”
SOE alerted players to the start of the Planetside 2 beta with this announcement, sent out on Monday morning: “External Beta invites will be sent out in waves on an as needed basis, with priority given to active Planetside subscribers, inactive past subscribers and then Priority Beta Code and opt-in registrants, in that order. Invitations to the External Beta will automatically be sent via email to the address associated with the Station Account utilized to register for Beta participation on PlanetSide2.com.”
Rounding out today’s Planetside 2 news was the announcement from SOE President John Smedley that the game will be available on Steam. Smedley tweeted, “Planetside 2 will be on Steam. Yes it will.” Everyone at SOE must be breathing a sigh of relief now that the beta is finally available.
If you applied for the beta and you still haven’t received an invite, don’t panic. The invites will be sent out in waves over the next two to three weeks. While you wait and try not to chew your nails to the quick, you can always check out the new Planetside 2 video and find out more details about this amazing looking new game from Sony Online Entertainment.
