The Final Appearance Of A Major Villain In The Marvel Cinematic Universe Is Hinted At
One of the most popular characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) may end up having his final appearance quite soon. Tom Hiddleston has played Loki three times now, and he’s set to play him a fourth time in Thor: Ragnarok which is due out in theaters late next year. Fans of Loki need to take it all in because it could be the very last time that he ever appears in the MCU.
Hiddleston spoke with The Daily Beast about a number of things that he has going on and coming up in his career, and of course, they went to the Marvel movies. The character of Loki was discussed and how he first came about back in Thor in 2011, as well as the future of the evil god.
Loki next appeared as the main villain in The Avengers and then again in Thor: The Dark World, with Thor: Ragnarok set to be Hiddleston’s fourth time in the role. The film begins shooting in June, and Hiddleston revealed that it is likely the last time the fans will see Loki.
“Thor 3 will be cool because I’ve not done it for four years. I love working with Chris [Hemsworth]. This will be my last time out of the gate.”
So wait…what?
Hiddleston just said that it is going to be the last time he plays Loki in the MCU, and it didn’t seem to be subtle or a hint. That being said, it seems like this will be the end of Loki’s time, and fans won’t see him again after Thor: Ragnarok.
Tom Hiddleston was set to reprise the role of Loki in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but his part was cut from the film. He was set to be involved in a dream sequence for Thor after Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) took command over Thor’s mind.As reported by Screen Crush, Hiddleston was cut from the film and Loki was taken out due to test audiences thinking too much of his appearance. Many thought that he was there and controlling Ultron and it took away from the film and was “confusing people.”
Now, he will be appearing in Thor: Ragnarok for 100 percent certainty, and he won’t be cut from this film. The thing is, many thought he would be appearing in Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2 as well, but that remains to be seen.
When asked about the two-part monster of a film, Hiddleston was just as confused as anyone else.
“I don’t know! Honestly, I don’t know. They haven’t got their ducks in a row yet. They make it up as they go along.”
That seems like a legit enough answer and one that actually makes a lot of sense. Marvel still has a number of movies to go until the films come out in May of 2018 and then May of 2019. Things are really going to begin rolling with Captain America: Civil War in a little over a month, and more may be known by then.
Loki won’t be in that film, but Thor isn’t scheduled to be in it either.
Once that movie hits theaters, screenwriters Stephen McFeely and directors Joe and Anthony Russo will get to work big-time on Avengers: Infinity War. It is very possible that Loki could be added into the storyline and make another appearance. If Thor: Ragnarok is the last sighting of Loki, it is going to be a sad day as he has become one of the most popular characters in the MCU.
Tom Hiddleston has a lot of things on the burner right now, and he’s a very busy actor who has jobs all over the place. Even if he has five other films working, Marvel fans would still want him to appear again as Loki and past Thor: Ragnarok. Maybe he’ll show up in Avengers: Infinity War, and maybe he won’t. Only time will tell.
