Jeremy Mayfield tests positive for Meth again
NASCAR driver Jeremy Mayfield tested positive for methamphetamine last week, further undermining claims by Mayfield that he was not taking the drug.
In court filings lodged today as part of Mayfield’s effort to overturn his suspension, NASCAR said that Mayfield failed a random drug test on July 6 on top of his failed test in May. The document said specifically that the urine sample collected on July 6 “conclusively” showed that Mayfield had been taking meth.
In supporting documents, NASCAR filed an affidavit from Mayfield’s stepmother Lisa Mayfield stating that she personally saw him use methamphetamine at least 30 times over seven years. Mayfield also said that in 1999 she witnessed Mayfield use the drug before a race at Darlington Raceway. “I was concerned about his heavy use and talked to his father about it,” USA Today said the statement read. “I saw Jeremy use methamphetamine by snorting it up his nose at least 30 times during the seven years I was around him.”
Mayfield though is still claiming that the tests are untrue: “I don’t trust anything NASCAR does, anything (program administrator) Dr. David Black does, never have, never will.”
