Renee Zellweger Ignores Criticism About Her Looks, Focuses On Promoting Latest ‘Bridget Jones’ Film
Bridget Jones’ Baby is finally set to hit theaters and the long-awaited event is, of course, accompanied by the much-needed promotion tour that actors in the film are expected to take part in. Renee Zellweger returns as the endearing lead character Bridget Jones and found herself on the Today Show this week where she made it clear that she is not affected by opinions and comments about her new appearance.
The Today Show host, Shaneille Jones, asked Renee about the manner she deals with people talking about the alterations she made to her appearance a couple of years back.
“I remember a couple of years ago people were talking about, ‘Oh, she changed her appearance.’ Does it bother you, does it get to you or is it just par for the course?”
Entertainment Weekly relays the star’s words about the perception and talk of her novel appearance.
“It’s not really part of my life. It’s part of the job, that I don’t really experience except when I step into this arena. In my home I’m not aware of it. I don’t do any kind of social media, so I don’t see it. I like to have – I guess you would call them real experiences. “
As the publication reminds, back in 2014 when the public was given their first glimpse of Zellweger’s updated appearance, the actress spoke with People candidly and made it known that she is happier and healthier than ever.
“I’m glad folks think I look different! I’m living a different, happy, more fulfilling life, and I’m thrilled that perhaps it shows. “
Renee described the whole controversy that began brewing due to her surgery as “silly” and shared that she only chose to talk about it all to put the rumors to rest.
“It seems the folks who come digging around for some nefarious truth which doesn’t exist won’t get off my porch until I answer the door.”
During her candid interview, Zellweger’s main priority was to chat about the highly anticipated Bridget Jones flick that is soon to hit theaters, and was happy to get back to business and off talking about her appearance. The film revolves around the comical character from the first two films, Bridget Jones, who finds herself becoming pregnant but not sure as to whether the father of her baby is Mr. Mark Darcy, played by Colin Firth, or her new love interest, Jack Qwant, played by dashing Patrick Dempsey.
The star relayed that the level of secrecy is so strict that three alternate endings were filmed to avoid any potential spoilers. It’s so secretive that Renee admits that even she doesn’t know the true turn out. Hello! shared the words of the actress on the subject.“They kept us guessing… Because you never know, people with cell phones and talking…and I might slip up and tell my mom, ‘Oh you know when she ends up with… I don’t know what they’re going to do!”
The goof news is that nearly a decade later, Renee still plays Bridget Jones as she did so many years back and as the Guardian shares is still everyone’s ” favourite calorie-counting media muppet…still juggling blokes (Patrick Dempsey joins Colin Firth to form the new instalment’s love triangle), but this time has a bun in the oven to boot.”
Continuing on in the review of the film, the Guardian shares that the film’s trailer shows promise of some very funny bits, one involving Emma Thompson as Jones’s obstetrician, who has to go along with the course of events after Jones tells both possible fathers that they are each the parent to her child.
