Pastor Sarah Halverson Supports All Marriages: Participates In Chick-Fil-A Kiss Day
National Same-Sex Kiss Day at Chik-Fil-A, that occured on Friday, August 3rd, raised major controversy and elicited a huge amount of PDA around the country.
Many same-sex couples gathered at Chick-Fil-A restaurants all around the country on Friday to show their support for marriage equality. The fast food chain has been making headlines recently due to their COO’s, Dan Cathy, outward proclamation against gay marriage. Dan Cathy, who made his stand based on his own christian values says,
“I think we are inviting God’s judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say, ‘We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage,’ and I pray God’s mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to try to redefine what marriage is about.”
However, Sarah Halverson, a pastor at Fairview Community Church in Costa Mesa does not agree with Cathy’s view.
Halverson tells OC Weekly, “It’s heartbreakingly sad to see people using the Bible and Christian rhetoric to make people feel like they don’t belong in God’s House.” To show her own support for marriage equality, Halverson posed for a picture in front of a local Chick-Fil-A. In this picture, Halverson is shown wearing her clerical collar while being kissed on the cheek by her secretary Cindy. In the picture, she is also shown holding up a rainbow colored sign that read: We Support The LGBT Community. Halverson believes “God supports and blesses all marriages.” The church welcomes those of all sexual orientations.”
Halverson is proud of what she did. “It was a powerful experience,” she told The Huffington Post, “I felt compelled to be there to stand as a compassionate loving voice for justice.”
What about you? What is your stance on this whole Chick-Fil-A controversy?
