Iggy Azalea Spills The Tea On Britney Spears, Demi Lovato, And Macklemore
Iggy Azalea didn’t plead the fifth on Wednesday night. The Australian rapper made an appearance on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live, in which she opened up about her fellow pop artists.
Let’s first start off with the Britney Spears feud rumors. Azalea candidly said what it was like to work with the pop princess on the late-night talk show. She revealed that Spears’ manager searched Azalea’s home long before they could record their 2015 track, “Pretty Girls.” She said that she wanted to have lunch with Spears, but her team wanted to make sure that the rapper wasn’t doing anything illegal.
“They came and checked my place to make sure I wasn’t trying to stash anything weird and, like, give it to her, or something.”
A shell-shocked Andy Cohen then asked, “Wait, Britney had advance people come scope out the place?”
“Yeah, to make sure I wasn’t a bad influence. And I’m not. I passed the test!” Azalea said. “I was like, ‘I promise, I’m not gonna do anything bad. I just want to have lunch.’ I mean, I don’t do anything weird. I don’t have, like, a crack den,” she joked.
Unfortunately, “Pretty Girls” failed to perform on both the Billboard and iTunes charts. At the time, Iggy said the reason why the song failed was lack of promotion. She later then said that she wasn’t throwing shade at Britney, but that didn’t stop the pop star from hitting back on Twitter.
“Can’t wait to get back to Vegas. So thankful I have shows for the rest of the year to look forward to…#YouWantaPieceofMe,” Spears coyly tweeted in response to the news about Azalea’s canceled Great Escape Tour.
But on Wednesday’s WWHL episode, Iggy insisted that they’re still “cool and always have been,” and said that they “never had a fight.”
In that same interview, she talked about her alleged feud with fellow rapper Macklemore. In his new song “White Privilege II,” he calls out Azalea for cultural appropriation.
“You’ve exploited and stolen the music, the moment, the magic, the passion, the fashion, you toy with. The culture was never yours to make better. You’re Miley, you’re Elvis, you’re Iggy Azalea.”
The performer admitted that she hasn’t spoken to Macklemore since his new song dropped, and that he hasn’t even reached out to her about the lyric. However, he revealed to Billboard that he probably should’ve gave her the heads up.
“I don’t think it was intended as a diss. But at least I would’ve been prepared when the headlines came out.”
She also talked about her best friend, Demi Lovato. In another interview on AMP Radio’s Showboy in the Morning, she said that Wilmer Valderrama should get on one knee and propose already.
“She needs to get engaged. Wilmer needs to get on it. He’s slippin’. Have you seen Demi? She’s bomb. I don’t know what he’s waiting for…Listen, you better buy Demi a ring. I want to be engaged together.”
She also revealed what it’s really like to hang out with the “Confident” singer.
“With Demi, she lives down the street from me. When it is 10 at night, we are able to be like, ‘Just come over and watch TV.'”
But Lovato isn’t the only one who Azalea wants to be friends with these days. In fact, she would like her own squad of pop stars.
“Of course, Demi is up there. I love Demi. T.I., I know I can call him for anything I want and he can make it happen. We are good. We’ve always been good. I love Kesha. We keep saying we are going to have a lady date together and go ride my two horses. She likes horses.”
