Nina Dobrev Ends Fling With Tim Tebow, Is She Ready To Reunite With Ian Somerhalder On ‘The Vampire Diaries’?

Despite a heated romance that started after an appearance on Lip Sync Battle, Nina Dobrev has ended her fling with former NFL star Tim Tebow. With Dobrev now free to pursue other relationships, is she ready to reunite with Ian Somerhalder on The Vampire Diaries? Will her appearance on The Originals open the door for a future reunion between the former lovers?

According to Celeb Dirty Laundry, Dobrev and Tebow started dating each other shortly after she ended things with Austin Stowell. Apparently, the two really hit it off during their rendition of “Let’s Get It On” on Lip Sync Battle, which immediately sparked rumors of a growing romance.

Unfortunately, Dobrev and Tebow’s relationship was short lived. The true reasons behind their breakup are unknown, but there are a few possible reasons why things didn’t work out. For starters, Tebow’s desire to save himself for his wife could be one reason why Dobrev decided to end it. Furthermore, Dobrev is trying her best to focus on her career, which has yet to successfully transfer to the big screen.

In fact, Dobrev has struggled to land any major roles since her departure from The Vampire Diaries in Season 6. So far, Dobrev’s biggest role is in the upcoming film xXx: The Return of Xander Cage. Dobrev plays the part of Rebecca in the action flick. Apart from that, Dobrev does not have any big roles lined up in the next year.

With Dobrev’s movie career sputtering, KPopStarz is reporting that Dobrev might be set to return to The Originals. Although it isn’t clear which role Dobrev would play in the spinoff series, there is a possibility that she will take on the part of Tatia Petrova.

Both The Vampire Diaries and The Originals have witnessed a decline in ratings in the last year. Much of this decline is thought to be a result of Nina Dobrev’s departure. Despite the lower ratings, both series have been renewed for another year.

In speaking to Deadline, The CW’s Mark Pedowitz shared his motivations behind giving shows like The Vampire Diaries and The Originals another shot at success.

“The CW has become home to some of the most critically-acclaimed shows on broadcast television, with a wide array of fantastic scripted series across the week, ranging from musical comedy, to superhero action, to gritty sci-fi dramas,” he shared. “As we continue to further our strategy of more year-round original programming, picking up these 11 series for the 2016-2017 season puts us in a great position of having proven, high-quality shows to launch in the fall as well as midseason and summer of 2017.”

With both shows coming off mediocre seasons, the network will have more than enough motivation to bring Dobrev back into the fold. After all, if Dobrev decides to return to the series, then there is little doubt that she will help increase ratings for both shows.

Speaking of motivation, Celeb Dirty Laundry is reporting that Dobrev might have good reasons of her own in joining the cast of The Originals. Dobrev left The Vampire Diaries after reported conflicts with Somerhalder, which means a move to The Originals could be an effort to spite her former boyfriend.

Either way, if Dobrev is cast in the upcoming season of The Originals, then she is definitely one step closer in re-uniting with Somerhalder. Considering how both shows reside in the same world, it would not be that surprising if producers had Dobrev appear in a crossover with The Vampire Diaries. If that did happen, then the series would likely return to its high ratings of past years, at least for one night.
