Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner should give Hollywood — and the rest of America — a lesson in how to break up.
Nobody ever plans on splitting up their marriage. You tie the knot and hope to spend the rest of your life with the person you love. But regardless of that, divorce still happens and at times affects kids. Hollywood is no stranger to this scenario, but if there’s one couple that marital splits should be modeled after, it’s Affleck and Garner .
It’s been nearly nine months since the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star split from Jennifer Garner, and he recently opened up about the situation on The Ellen DeGeneres Show , with the show’s host commending him for putting the children first.
“I know it’s been kind of a challenging year, obviously. And I what I love—and I think what everybody loves—is that you and Jen are putting the kids first, and that we see you with the kids all the time,” she told Ben, who is a father to Violet, 10, Seraphina, 7, and Samuel, 4.
“I think that’s the most important thing and the most important message to send everybody,” Ellen added.
“Absolutely, you know?” Ben said, according to E! News . “We’re good friends and we’re doing our best and our kids are fabulous and we’re working our best for them and that’s…What are you gonna do?”
As for Jennifer Garner, she already talked to Vanity Fair in a revealing interview about their split, with Ben Affleck being very supportive of her decision to get the discussion over with.
“It’s fine. She’s allowed to talk about it. She felt like she needed to discuss it and get it out there and get it over with,” Affleck said to the New York Times .
In the Vanity Fair interview, Garner described Affleck as a complicated man and admitted that ending their marriage hurt so much.
According to ABC News , Ben Affleck went on to say that they both are committed to staying close as a family and that Garner is a great person. And although they are split, they are still planning a family vacation together.
Perez Hilton also notes that while being interviewed by the New York Times , Affleck revealed that his son, Samuel, thinks his dad truly is Batman.
“He knows that I am Batman.” Affleck admitted. “It’s a mixed blessing. He also thinks that for some reason — I don’t know if it’s the color combination or whatever — that the FedEx guy is the Joker.”
Affleck also went into detail about being a dad to a son who thinks he’s Batman during Ellen DeGeneres’s talk show.
“I haven’t done anything that my kids could see for a long time,” Affleck said in regards to his last two movies, Argo and Gone Girl , being R-rated and wanting to play in a movie his kids could watch. “So I thought that would be kind of cool.”
“My son thinks it’s cool. My son thinks it’s really cool.” Affleck continued. “He came to the set. He was a little bit suspicious, too. He was like, ‘Is that the real Superman?’ ‘Yes, he is. That’s more or less about as real as it gets. That’s the real Superman.’ When I’d leave, he’d be like, ‘Dad, are you going to the Batcave?’ I can’t [let him down]. I’m like, ‘Yes, I am.’ Eventually he’s going to be in therapy, like, ‘You lied to me! There’s no Batcave! He’s doing Ellen . He thinks I’m in the Batcave now.”
Affleck also talked about playing a different type of Batman than what Christian Bale portrayed in the Dark Knight series. Although he praised Bale’s performance, Affleck said that while Bale’s performance was amazing, he didn’t want to copy it, and the idea was to to be different.
