Joran Van Der Sloot Confessed To Natalee Holloway’s Murder, But His Lawyer Says ‘It’s A Total Lie’
A taped confession from Joran van der Sloot was recently made public. In it, Joran is seen speaking about the infamous Natalee Holloway case and how he outsmarted police in Aruba and got way with her murder. Van der Sloot’s lawyer, Maximo Altez, told Fox News that the confession isn’t real, calling the shocking confession to Holloway’s murder a “total lie.”
“It’s a total lie, it’s a distorted, the video has been edited to make it look like that,” Altez said. The confession was allegedly made when Radar Online allegedly sent reporters to the Challapalca Prison to speak to Joran van der Sloot. He is currently incarcerated in the Peruvian prison for the murder of Stephany Flores. Joran is interviewed on what looks like a hidden camera by a man in Dutch in the video released on Wednesday. Joran’s wife, Leidy Figueroa, can be seen sitting next to him during the meeting.
In the video, van der Sloot is seen smiling when asked about the Natalee Holloway murder case.
“I always lied to the police,” van der Sloot said, adding, “I never told the truth. I made up so many stories against the police… Also, when I was younger, I never told everything. The police just never knew what they had to ask me.”
“I think that was one of the worst police investigations that ever took place!” Joran’s words are translated into English in the caption. He is asked by the interviewer if he is talking about the Natalee Holloway case. To that, van der Sloot responds, “Yes, this is also where I am guilty and I admit everything that I have done.”
Despite Joran saying himself that he murdered Natalee Holloway, his attorney argues that doesn’t mean it actually happened.
“He can confess to killing John Kennedy, or John Lennon, that doesn’t mean he did it,” Altez told Fox News. “He is a mythomaniac.” Altez, who represents van der Sloot pro bono, claims that his client is a compulsive liar. Altez also contends that his client has a “verifiable psychiatric diagnosis.” Joran’s lawyer also says that the confession won’t hold up anyway because it wasn’t made in court.

Joran’s wife, Leidy Figueroa, was present for the suspicious interview and she also argues that van der Sloot didn’t confess to Natalee Holloway’s murder when speaking to the unidentified reporter.
“It doesn’t make any sense for Joran to say something like that,” Figueroa said. The interview happened in January after Figueroa helped to set it up. She claimed that van der Sloot only agreed to do the interview because he knew the person conducting it and “considered them as family.” Despite their betrayal and Figueroa’s anger that the interview was taped without their consent and against prison rules, she declined to identify the reporter.
“I am very angry because he shouldn’t have brought a camera inside,” Figueroa said in the interview. “They are supposed to check that no cameras get in.” Leidy Figueroa didn’t discuss what may have actually been said during the interview or how it was misconstrued in the edit.

Even though he is still listed as the primary suspect in the murder of Natalee H0lloway, law enforcement never could put together enough evidence to charge van der Sloot with H0lloway’s murder. Currently, the Dutch citizen is one of only two foreigners housed at the remote Challapalca prison, nicknamed the “Alcatraz of the Andes.”
Joran was sentenced to 28 years for the murder of Peruvian business student Stephany Flores in 2010. Although van der Sloot blames his own paranoia and cocaine use as the reason for Flores’ murder, coincidentally, she died on the fifth anniversary of Natalee Holloway’s disappearance.
