‘Arrow’ Star Stephen Amell Leaving After Season 4 For Secret Project ‘Code 8’?
Arrow star Stephen Amell is teaming up with his cousin Robbie Amell in a mysterious sci-fi based film. But does that mean he’s leaving The CW’s Arrow for success on the big screen?
The Amell cousins took to Facebook to release a short trailer (below) for the movie title Code 8. All that is known about the movie is what was seen in the teaser, “4% of people possess abnormal abilities” but “make up 60% of all arrests.”
Accompanying the trailer was a post by Stephen stating, “I’ve been working on something. So has Robbie Amell & Sung Kang.”

Stephen has cemented himself as the star of Arrow — currently airing Season 4 — and will also be venturing to the big screen in the upcoming film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows. Meanwhile, Robbie has enjoyed screen time in the short lived sci-fi series The Tomorrow People, but found new work as Firestorm on the CW’s The Flash. According to Screen Rant, Robbie has also appeared the recently rebooted X-Files series.
Other actors listed in the movie, according to the film’s official Facebook page are Aaron Abrams (Hannibal), Chad Donella (Taken 3), and Alfred Rubin Thompson (Sons of Anarchy). Writing the script is Chris Pare, while Jeff Chan takes the director’s seat and both will produce alongside the Amells, Geoff Mclean, and Tommy Dingwall.
Also seen in the trailer are the characters played by Robbie and Abrams. They two appear to be involved in some sort of confrontation as a police car approaches backed up by a hovering aircraft that drops two drones dressed as police officers. Before the trailer was released on Facebook, it was first seen at the sci-fi convention Heroes and Villains Fan Fest, in Illinois. “Stephen and I have been trying to work together for a long time,” Robbie told the Heroes and Villains audience. “We got a little taste of it on the ‘Flash’/’Arrow’ crossover, and we’ve been putting this together since August with a bunch of friends and family and calling in favors.”
However, while the film is certainly intriguing at the moment, some worry that a feature film means Stephen Amell will leave Oliver Queen behind.
Take a deep breath Arrow fans and exhale slowly, it doesn’t appear that is the case. First of all, IBTimes notes that while Robbie Amell is listed as an actor in Code 8 and can also be seen in the trailer, Stephen isn’t, and is listed on the film’s Facebook page as a producer only.
Second of all, rumors have already cropped up about Amell ditching The Arrow for greener pastures earlier this year. But Amell laid those rumors to rest. During a Facebook Q&A, Amell addressed those rumors by stating that he is not leaving Arrow. He even gave his contract details and said that his current contract runs through 2019.
So, it appears that Stephen Amell is simply expanding his career from hit TV show to feature films, and now on to producing. But that doesn’t mean he’s hanging up one hat as he tries on another. He appears to be talented enough to handle them all simultaneously. He has even ventured into WWE with a beef with Stardust. So fans, you get to see plenty of Stephen Amell in the future with Arrow currently airing on The CW, the upcoming Ninja Turtles film, his off screen stints in the square ring, and Code 8.
Though the latter is shrouded in mystery, with the film’s Facebook page not offering any sort of details about the film, or a scheduled release date — even the plot section remains bare — only with the date March 22, 2016, etched in.
Does that mean another trailer will be released then? We’ll have to wait to find out.
