Bret Michaels and Kristi Gibson Call Off Engagement
Bret Michaels and Kristi Gibson have called off their engagement in a stunning move by the Poison frontman and his longtime girlfriend, who is also the mother of his two children.
The Washington Post reports that Michaels’s rep said in a statement about their separation that they will, “remain great friends and are committed to jointly raising” their daughters, Raine Elizabeth (12) and Jorja Blue (7).
This is not the first time the couple has broken up in their 18-year-long relationship, but this time seems final.
Newsday notes that Michaels wrote on his official website about his separation from Gibson, saying:
“With all that Kristi, Raine, Jorja and I are going through, no doubt this is a very difficult time for all of us. I want all of you to know that Kristi and I remain great friends and committed loving parents to our daughters. I am blessed to have someone as great as Kristi in my life in any capacity.”
Brett Michaels and Kristi Gibson got engaged on December 2, 2010, and the proposal aired 18 days later on the finale of Michaels’s reality show “Bret Michaels: Life As I Know It.” As Bret proposed, he told Kristi:
“I bought you that ring, not to be a friendship with benefits . . . we’ve had that for a while. I love you and I respect you and you’ve been through so much with me. It means something to me.”
Michaels had a series of health scares in 2010, including an emergency appendectomy, brain hemorrhage, mini-stroke, and also discovered a hole in his heart that required surgery to repair.
