Ben Affleck Reacts To Jennifer Garner’s ‘Vanity Fair’ Piece In First Public Interview Since Estranged Wife’s Tell-All
Ben Affleck recently spoke out about Jennifer Garner’s Vanity Fair article. It was the first time Affleck had the chance to speak about the brutally honest profile, where his estranged wife Jennifer Garner said of him, “I always say, ‘When his sun shines on you, you feel it.’ But when the sun is shining elsewhere, it’s cold. He can cast quite a shadow.”
The New York Times journalist noted that while Affleck originally didn’t want to bring up the piece, later on in the interview he addressed it. Fortunately, Affleck doesn’t harbor any ill will towards Jennifer Garner for speaking publicly about the downfall of their marriage. This was something that many tabloids insisted Affleck, as well as his camp, was secretly fuming about.
As it turns out, it sounds like Affleck was given the heads up by Garner about the profile before it hit the stands.
Of the purpose behind Garner’s tell-all, Affleck said, “She felt like she wanted to discuss it and get it out there and get it over with so she could say, ‘Look, I already talked about it — I don’t want to do it again.'”

When the Vanity Fair article hit, Garner’s Alias co-star Victor Garber, who is also godfather to Ben and Jen’s first child, Violet, told Entertainment Tonight of his thoughts of the piece.
“I talked to her yesterday,” Garber explained. “I saw her yesterday, and she’s so happy about it and, it’s a beautiful, beautiful cover. And I’m just thrilled that they are — that Vanity Fair — is honoring her.”
Of how Affleck may feel, Garber wouldn’t speak to it, but he said, “I saw him, but I haven’t talked to him about it. So, I hope he’s OK.”
Throughout Ben and Jen’s separation, many outlets have written several stories about the couple being on the verge of a reunion. For every “reunion” story, there’s a story about how behind closed doors the estranged couple isn’t as united as they seem in the public eye. During his New York Times interview, Affleck only had nice things to say of Garner and mentioned they were on good terms.

“Jen’s great. She’s a great person. We’re on great terms. I just saw her this morning, so that’s the reality that I live in.”
This seems to echo the sentiment that Garner gave about Affleck in her Vanity Fair piece. Although she did highlight his flaws, despite not naming them specifically, she did paint an overall positive portrait of the father of her children.
One huge highlight from Garner’s Vanity Fair article was how she reacted to Ricky Gervais’ joke at the Golden Globes. At the time, Gervais introduced Affleck’s best friend Matt Damon as “the only person who Ben Affleck hasn’t been unfaithful to.” At the time, Garner admitted that the jab made her laugh.
It seems like both Affleck and Garner share the same sense of humor.
Affleck reacted by telling the New York Times reporter, “It’s the way Ricky Gervais perceives me, I suppose. Whatever. I’ve had jokes made at my expense before. It’s part of the deal.”
Many are still puzzled by Affleck and Garner’s current living arrangements. The Alias actress has confirmed that the two still live in the same house and have no plans to change that arrangement, because it helps them with raising their three children together.
It was also revealed that when Ben starts shooting Justice League in London, Garner and the kids will follow in tow for a “family vacation.”
The profile made no mention of ex-nanny Christine Ouznounian or the alleged affair Affleck’s camp has denied. That said, Garner put the kibosh on the assumption that Ouzounian had been the decision behind their divorce. The actress said that they had already decided to divorce and then the nanny scandal happened. At the time, she called it a “bad judgment.”
