Will ‘Teen Wolf’ Star Dylan O’Brien’s Injuries Filming ‘Maze Runner’ Affect TV Series?
Teen Wolf star Dylan O’Brien was injured Friday while filming the latest installment of the Maze Runner film series, Entertainment Tonight reported. Questions now arise how these injuries that Dylan O’Brien sustained will affect production for the upcoming season of Teen Wolf.
The injuries the Teen Wolf star reportedly received were multiple broken bones in his face. Dylan O’Brien was allegedly hit by a vehicle during filming, forcing The Maze Runner production crew to rush him to the hospital.
The Maze Runner series director, Wes Ball, praised Dylan O’Brien, calling the Teen Wolf star “one tough cookie.” Ball went on to say that he was sorry to O’Brien and “for the grief this accident has caused his friends and family as well as my wonderful cast and crew. It’s scary seeing your friend get hurt, but fortunately, Dylan is going to be just fine.”

Will Dylan O’Brien miss time on set with his Teen Wolf brethren due to the accident sustained while filming The Maze Runner? Although production has been halted on The Maze Runner’s third film, Teen Wolf filming should proceed as planned due to the already expected absence, TV Line reported. The MTV series finished its fifth season earlier this month and rumors of what will take place in season 6 are already starting to form.
At the end of season 5 of Teen Wolf, the main pack members had just finished their first semester of their senior year. As International Business Times reports, season 6 of Teen Wolf will take place at the end of their senior year, after a three-month time jump. There will be two new villains in season 6: a Nazi werewolf and a ghost. MTV released a teaser trailer for season 6 of Teen Wolf which featured a ghostly presence on horseback, so that might be the ghost villain.

As the main pack members are set to finally graduate, focus on Teen Wolf may start to shift to younger cast members. Loyal viewers can take heart, though, that characters like Scott McCall (Tyler Posey) and Stiles Stilinski (Dylan O’Brien) will still be featured on screen.
In fact, Jeff Davis, the Executive Producer for Teen Wolf, recently sat down for an interview about the upcoming season. When talking with TV Line, Davis made a point of addressing the character of Stiles and friend/potential love interest Lydia, who is played by Holland Roden.
“They’re not only lingering feelings — they become a focus, a focal point of the next season. Something big happens in the very first episode of Season 6 between Stiles and Lydia, which you’ll have to tune in to see.”
Filming for season 6 of Teen Wolf began at the end of February and while Dylan O’Brien has been busy filming for the TV show in Los Angeles, he has split his time between California and Vancouver, Canada, for his role in the film The Maze Runner: The Death Cure.
Teen Wolf Executive Producer Jeff Davis has signed off on this double duty and is confident that Dylan O’Brien is up for the challenge. Of the busy schedule, according to Ecumenical News, Davis already discussed how the time split would affect Dylan O’Brien’s character in the upcoming season.
“Obviously, we have to work around his movie schedule but you’ll see the story we’ve come up with. I think it’s going to make everyone pretty happy.”
The Maze Runner: The Death Cure is the third installment in The Maze Runner film franchise, based on the book series by James Dashner. The film franchise has proven to be very popular with the two installments to date grossing $660 milion. The third movie, The Maze Runner: The Death Cure, will be in theaters February 17, 2017.
Dylan O’Brien has had a starring role in all of The Maze Runner films as he portrays Thomas, a teenager in a dystopian world who must literally escape a vast maze in order to survive. The Maze Runner: The Death Cure was originally going to be split into two movies, but will instead continue as one movie. In it, Thomas will learn the fate of the world and what his role is in saving it.
The combination of Teen Wolf and The Maze Runner series has helped Dylan O’Brien to be noticed on a large scale. In 2014, Dylan O’Brien won a Teen Choice Award for Best TV Villain for his portrayal of Stiles on Teen Wolf, and in 2015, he won an MTV Movie Award for Best Breakout Actor for his work on The Maze Runner. Last year, Dylan O’Brien was also nominated for a Teen Choice Award for Best Movie Actor.
As Dylan O’Brien gears up for filming on both Teen Wolf and The Maze Runner: The Death Cure, his presence will continue to be noticed. Fans will ultimately have to wait and see how the injuries Dylan O’Brien sustained while filming The Maze Runner affect his future role on Teen Wolf.
