Rebel Wilson Says Drink Was Spiked, Warns Fans
GHB. Rohypnol. Ketamine. These are only three possible drugs that could be used to spike someone’s drink, and Rebel Wilson says that she believes her drink was spiked recently as she was celebrating her birthday.
According to Time, Rebel Wilson was out with fellow Pitch Perfect actresses Hailee Steinfeld, Ester Dean, Shelley Regner, and Alexis Knapp March 10, when the incident occurred. She said she realized something was amiss early enough that she was able to get herself to safety.

“I got home safely but woke up this morning feeling like I’d been hit by a truck,” Rebel Wilson said. “I never thought that would happen to me, but if it does … please act as soon as you feel something strange and get yourself to safety.”
According to the Guardian, there are no official statistics about the numbers of victims of spiked drinks, largely because the victims believe that they will not be believed if they do report it. Concerns include that police will simply think they consumed too much alcohol and were “stupid” or that they won’t be taken seriously because they do not remember what happened. Unfortunately, what happened to Rebel Wilson is only part of a frightening issue that has hit both genders, though generally, women seem to be the hardest hit.
Former bar worker Blythe Jopling said that during her days tending bar, there were multiple times where she took care of individuals who were victims of having their drink spiked. She admitted that she, too, believes that she was a victim of having her drink spiked as well, whether it was with alcohol or with an unknown substance.
“When I worked in a bar there was no formal procedure and it was never mentioned by managers,” Jopling said. “There’s still an attitude that ‘if someone’s got themselves in a mess they only have themselves to blame’.”

Fortunately for Rebel Wilson, she was able to realize what was happening about a third of the way into her drink, and she got herself to a safe place where she would be in no danger. While that was a particularly disturbing note to her birthday celebrations, she was still able to continue the party; she later jetted to Universal Studios and later posted images from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
Steinfeld also chimed in on the birthday greetings to Rebel Wilson, posting an image of herself, Wilson, Dean, Knapp and Regner with the caption, “Happy birthday Rebel!”
Fortunately for Rebel Wilson, she did realize that it was important to act quickly in an instance where your drink is spiked. Alcohol still tends to be the most common substance used to spike a drink, though drugs like rohypnol tend to get a lot of press. According to ReachOut, there are a range of symptoms which might indicate you are the victim of a spiked drink, including but not limited to sleepiness, dizziness, feeling really drunk or confused even when you haven’t had much to drink, and even passing out.
ReachOut recommends that people who, like Rebel Wilson, suspect that their drink has been spiked need to go to the police or, at the very least, tell their friends that they think their drink may have been spiked. Friends should keep an eye on the person who believes that they may have consumed a spiked drink for their own safety, and if the situation should happen on a date, the person whose drink was spiked should arrange for a friend to come get them sooner rather than later.
Rebel Wilson’s traumatic experience ended well, and thankfully, she is using her experience to educate others about the dangers of spiked drinks. Spiked drinks continue to be an issue in society, and Rebel Wilson has provided a sobering note to a terrible experience.
