‘Food Wars: Shokugeki No Soma’ Season 2 Revealed: When Will The Highly-Anticipated Anime Make Its Premier?
On April 4, 2013, manga series writer Y?to Tsukuda and illustrator Shun Saeki teamed up to create one of the most popular manga series, based on food, to ever come out of Japan. It’s called Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma and since that date, it has become extremely popular. To understand just how popular the series is, there are a total of 157 chapters made as of February. Out of those 157 chapters, 145 have been published in a total of 17 manga books. As for international localization, only 10 of them are available with the 11th manga book scheduled for an international release on April 5. All the volumes of Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma have sold in the hundreds of thousands.
Even though the Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma manga is popular, it is the anime that has made it a huge hit internationally. First announced back in October 2014 by Shueisha Inc., the anime is directed by Yoshitomo Yonetani at J.C. Staff with Shogo Yasukawa as the series scriptwriter. Yoshitsugu Matsuoka (Sword Art Online, No Game No Life) and Risa Taneda (Beyond the Boundary, Strike the Blood) voice the lead characters, Sõma Yukihira and Erina Nakiri respectively. All these elements made for a phenomenal debut on April 3, 2015, which was a precursor for a prosperous anime series.
The final episode of the Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma anime aired on September 25, 2015. To both the disdain and excitement of fans, especially those who followed the manga prior to the anime, Season 1 ended right after the preliminary round of the T?tsuki Autumn Election. This left the series open for a second season.
Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma fans were ecstatic, but besides the open-ended finish to the first season, other information pertaining to a second season was literally non-existent. Was it cancelled? Were the animators still working on it? Nobody knew. Even when a promotional trailer was streamed for the upcoming second season back in December 2015 (see below), all it did was stoke the fervor of fans.
Now, fans of the Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma anime are celebrating because an official announcement has been made that the second season will air this year. Not only that, it also provided the official name of the second season as well as when exactly the anime will premiere.
The news came about on the official Twitter account of Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma, as reported by the Anime News Network. In the tweet, it displayed the aforementioned release date range and name of the second season.

From the tweet attached above, it reads that the second season will be officially titled Shokugeki no Soma: Ni no Sara, which translates to Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma – The Second Plate. It also reveals the anime will premiere in the summertime.
It is assumed the anime will air on Crunchyroll, the popular anime streaming site, simply because it is through them the first anime adaption was aired in Japan. Once Sentai Filmworks got the license to stream the series in the North America, Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma was available on Hulu, too.
Inquisitr will report more news on Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma – The Second Plate as it becomes available. Until then, it is still possible to stream the first season of the anime, Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma. The first season is available for viewing on both Crunchyroll and Hulu. Please take note both streaming sites stream the series for free but with ads unless the viewer has a paid subscription.
