Ken Shamrock, Kimbo Slice Fail ‘Bellator 149’ Pre-Fight Drug Tests
Bellator MMA stars Kimbo Slice and Ken Shamrock have failed their Bellator 149 pre-fight drug tests, according to MMA Fighting.
Both Shamrock and Kimbo have been suspended by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The official drug test results are being withheld by the TDLR due to pending litigation. Both men had urine samples taken prior to their bouts at Bellator 149.
Drug test failures in the state of Texas usually result in a 90-day suspension, and a $5,000 fine. The official punishment for both men hasn’t yet been released.
Kimbo Slice is coming off a win over Dada 5000 at Bellator 149, in what was a fight that many called the worst fight in the history of mixed-martial-arts. Many were expecting it to be a slug-fest between the two street-fighters that would end in less than two-minutes via knockout. Instead, it nearly went the distance, and it ended when Dada 5000 was literally too exhausted to stand up.
According to MixedMartialArts.com, the Kimbo Slice vs. Dada 5000 result has been overturned to a no-contest following Kimbo’s drug test failure.
Dada 5000 ended up in the hospital after his bout with Kimbo at Bellator 149 due to his heart stopping. According to Billy Corben, who directed a documentary in which Dada was featured in, said that the fighter almost died following his fight with Kimbo, and that it’s a miracle that he was able to recover.
“As it turns out, (Dada 5000) was dying. His body was shutting down during that fight, having nothing whatsoever to do with his fight training, but with his nutrition and dietary issues.”
The dietary issues that Corben is referring to has to do with weight-cutting. Just a couple of days before the fight, Dada cut down to the heavyweight limit of 265-pounds from well-over 300-pounds, which meant that he starved and dehydrated himself to make weight.
It’s pretty safe to assume that Dada will never fight in Bellator MMA ever again.
Ken Shamrock is coming off a loss to his old rival Royce Gracie at Bellator 149. It was Royce’s first ever TKO win, but it didn’t come without controversy.
Prior to the TKO victory, Royce blatantly kneed Shamrock in the groin. However, the referee missed it, and when Shamrock went down, Royce pounced on him, and connected with just a few punches before the referee stopped it.
Shamrock was furious when the fight was stopped, and he’s currently in the process of trying to get the official decision of the fight overturned to a no-contest. But, now that it’s been revealed that he failed his pre-fight drug test, he may have trouble getting the result of the Bellator 149 main event overturned.
Prior to both men’s drug-test failures, many expected Bellator to use them again later this year because they’ve both drawn record-high ratings for the promotion.
There was some talk about doing Ken Shamrock vs. Royce Gracie 4 due to the controversial ending of their last fight. But, it’s unlikely that Royce would be up for it.
Nobody really knew what Bellator had planned for Kimbo. Some suggested that they could put him against Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, while others thought that they should do yet another freak-show fight, and put him in the cage with Royce Gracie.
If both men end up getting hit with just a 90-day suspension, then they’ll both probably fight again for Bellator. But if they end up getting hit with anything harsher than that, then Bellator may be forced to never use either fighter again.
