What’s New On Netflix? Fresh Content For ‘Netflix And Chill’ This Weekend

As the week winds down and you prepare to take some personal time on the couch, it’s good to know that Netflix is constantly adding new content for your viewing pleasure. And whether you’re looking for a new show to binge watch by yourself, or the perfect movie to put on when that special someone finally accepts your “Netflix and chill” offer, the video-streaming giant has you covered. From Netflix original series likes Flaked (with Will Arnett) and The Characters, to more intimate films like Before We Go and Bare, you’ve got more than a weekend’s worth of new television and movies to watch before going back to work on Monday.

If the single season of SNL currently available on Netflix isn’t enough sketch comedy to meet your needs (or if Lorne Michaels’ brand of comedy doesn’t suit you), then Netflix Presents: The Characters may be just what you need. The Characters was developed around a team of eight relatively unknown comedians “who have each been granted a 30-minute episode to do with whatever they want,” as The Hollywood Reporter noted. The comedic music stylings of Natasha Rothwell are on display below.

As one of the stars of Arrested Development, Will Arnett already had a working relationship with Netflix. Now, Arnett stars as “Chip” in Flaked, a title that reflects the major character flaw — his un-dependability. As a recovering alcoholic, Chip is still trying to make a life for himself in Venice.

While no new movies are being added to Netflix this weekend, there are a few very interesting options that Netflix categorizes as “recently added” that are worth checking out. Captain America himself, Chris Evans, directs and stars in the drama Before We Go, an independent film that debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2014. Alice Eve co-stars.

If you’re looking for a movie that’s a little darker — perhaps a British film about a girl from a boring town on a journey of self-discovery — then Netflix still has you covered. A recent addition to their streaming library is Bare. A positive review from Slant Magazine said that the film is a “simple movie about quarter-life transition, and the sexual and existential awakenings that typically come with the territory.”

Or, if you still haven’t watched Dope, then maybe you need to. Released around the same time as the much-loved Straight Outta Compton, this movie also deals with drugs, gang violence, and 90s hip-hop culture. While Compton isn’t a comedy by any stretch, Dope is a comedy crime-drama that has Forest Whitaker as a producer, Pharrell Williams as executive producer, and Sean Combs as co-executive producer. There’s more content coming in the second half of the month that you can get excited about as well. If it’s even close to as good as Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure and Big Top Pee-Wee seemed to be 30 years ago, then Netflix Originals will have more well-received, nostalgia-filled content for anyone who grew up in the 90s. Pee-Wee’s Big Holiday will be released on Netflix on March 18.

Finally, the highly-anticipated Marvel’s Daredevil will finally release the second season on March 18. What Netflix and Marvel have accomplished together so far has been fantastic. The next addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe will hopefully tide fans over until Captain America: Civil War hits theaters in May.
