Fetty Wap And Young Thug Overnight Album Plans: Is Fetty Getting Too Cocky?

Fetty Wap has recently exploded onto the forefront of hip hop culture, and rumors have been circulating recently about Fetty having an upcoming collaboration album with one of rap’s other biggest names, Young Thug. Yesterday, Mouloud Achour of French website Clique sat down in New York for a video interview with Fetty Wap where Fetty told Achour that he and Young Thug would be able to write and produce their collab album overnight.

Disclaimer: the video contains some explicit language.

In the interview, Fetty first explained his propensity for putting together his own red-hot tracks at lightning speed.

“It don’t really take that long for me to do a song…in like three hours, I probably make like four or five songs,” revealed Fetty.

“If I just do hooks, I could probably make like ten songs in an hour. Like all hooks, no verses, and the adlibs. And I’m talking about final, not a rough draft, a final.”

Fetty argued that the reason for his speedy song composition was that putting together raps is fun, and not work, as far as he is concerned.

“When you love to do something, it’s not work to you. This is not work to me, and that’s what people don’t understand about me. I might not be the best lyricist… I may not make the type of music everybody likes. I make what I like and that’s why I am the way that I am… once you love it, it’s natural.”

Fetty Wap went on to explain that he has, over his career, developed the ability to save up song ideas in the back of his mind as he goes about his everyday life. Because of that, he only needs to spend minimal amounts of time at the drawing board to produce songs.

“I think of s*** all day… I book the studio for like seven hours, and I come out of there like, ‘gimme the mixtape.'”

Later in the interview, Achour asked about the Fetty Wap and Young Thug collaboration album, “ThuggaWap,” that was teased by Young Thug in another Clique interview in December 2015. More specifically, he asked Fetty how long he thinks such an album would take to make.

“Probably a night,” Fetty replied confidently and without hesitation.

Young Thug is also known for being able to produce his music very quickly. He has been known to release his lengthy mixtapes in quick succession, in some cases with less than a month in between (e.g. the gap between the “World War 3D” mixtapes and “1017 Thug 2“).

Thug has also bragged about how quick his song-making process is, telling Dazed magazine that he can “do a perfect song in ten minutes.”

Young Thug revealed a similar sentiment to Clique during his December interview.

“A lot of rappers take a long time to make one song. Hours, days, weeks. Man, I make albums in a week.”

Young Thug’s claims support Fetty Wap’s opinion that if the two expeditious songsmiths took one night to put their heads together for “ThuggaWap,” they could walk out of the studio with a completed tracklist under their belts (or whatever are the rapper equivalents of belts) in the morning.

In regard to the public’s desire for a 2016 collab between the two hip hop artists, reactions are mixed.

Although Young Thug had already seemingly confirmed “ThuggaWap,” Fetty said he was unsure when the collab would happen. Fetty continued, though, that he is confident his co-Thug effort would materialize sooner than later.

“We’re just two artists that really f*** with each other. So when the time comes, we’ll get down to it and we’ll do that s***.”

So although that means “ThuggaWap” is definitely not in progress yet, Fetty Wap’s claim means that the collab could literally be dropping as soon as tomorrow anyway.

For now, though, fans of the artists have to be held over by Young Thug’s latest mixtape, “Metro Thuggin,” and Fetty Wap’s mixtape, “Zoo 16,” as well as the new single, “Instant Friend,” that Fetty released yesterday.
