Jana, Jinger, and Joy-Anna Duggar recently opened up about love and marriage, and Jana implied that she would settle for marrying someone like her troubled brother, Josh Duggar. However, the three unmarried adult Duggar daughters revealed that they would rather leave their parents’ house to start new lives with husbands more like their father, Jim Bob Duggar.
During an interview with People , 26-year-old Jana Duggar revealed that Josh Duggar’s cheating scandal hasn’t scared her away from wanting to get married — it simply made her accept that her future husband might also have a few skeletons in his closet, and he might make a few potentially painful mistakes.
“You’re not going to marry a ‘perfect’ person; we aren’t perfect ourselves!” Jana said.
It’s true that nobody’s perfect, but some mistakes are worse than others — Josh Duggar’s behavior was bad enough that he thought he needed to spend six months at a Christian treatment facility. Josh decided to leave his four kids and his wife, Anna Duggar, at his parents’ house for half a year after he confessed to cheating on Anna and being addicted to internet pornography.
The Duggar daughters might stand by their future husbands even if they turn out to be total Joshes, but according to Jana Duggar’s 18-year-old sister, Joy-Anna Duggar, she and her unmarried female siblings would prefer to marry men more like their dad, Jim Bob Duggar.
“I think we would want someone like our dad – someone who is a strong leader and who loves God and loves others more than himself.”
Many People readers were appalled by Joy-Anna Duggar’s praise for her father.
“They want to marry a man who essentially allows his daughters to be molested by his far more important son?” one commenter wrote.
As In Touch Weekly reports, Josh Duggar sexually molested a babysitter and four of his younger sisters when he was a teenager. He repeatedly came to his parents and told them what he was doing, but Jim Bob did not remove his son from the household until Josh decided to prey upon his then-five-year-old sister. According to the Daily Mail , Jim Bob Duggar sent 15-year-old Josh to a faith-based treatment center instead of contacting the proper authorities and seeking professional help.
Jim Bob Duggar was willing to put his daughters at risk in order to protect his son from getting in trouble for engaging in incestuous sexual molestation. However, Gawker reports that the Duggar patriarch once expressed a belief that anyone who commits incest should be executed.
According to Bustle , one of Jim Bob Duggar’s other not-so-admirable qualities is his tendency to engage in embarrassing sex-related behavior. He made 19 Kids and Counting viewers cringe by dry-humping wife Michelle Duggar in front of Jessa Duggar and her future husband, Ben Seewald, during a supervised mini-golf date. In the video below, Jim Bob also kisses Michelle while saying, “Does this turn you on?”
The Chicago Tribune reports that Jim Bob Duggar also likes to tell some pretty gross stories that are meant to scare his daughters into remaining virgins until their wedding days. Jana, Jill, Jessa, Jinger, and Joy-Anna have likely all heard his disgusting parable of the cup full of spit.
“What if we were at a meeting with about one hundred other people and the speaker asked that a large cup be passed around and that everyone spit in the cup? What if you happened to be all the way in the back — the last person on the last row — and when the cup finally came to you the speaker asked you to drink out of the cup? What would you do?” Jim Bob reportedly asks his daughters. “That’s what it’s like if you have intimate physical relations with several partners.”
In other words, Jim Bob thinks that having sex with a woman who has had multiple sexual partners is as disgusting as drinking a cup full of spit.
While Joy-Anna, Jinger, and Jana Duggar might not marry men who are exactly like Jim Bob, their husbands will definitely have their father’s stamp of approval. Jim Bob told People that he doesn’t tell his daughters whom to marry , but he does pre-approve all of the girls’ possible matches. Here’s how it works: An interested male suitor comes to Jim Bob, and, if Jim Bob likes the guy, he tells his daughter about the potential match. Based on what Jim Bob tells her, the daughter can then decide whether or not she’s interested in courting the guy.
In a promo for the Duggar family’s new TV series, Jill & Jessa: Counting On , Jinger Duggar dropped a hint that those Lawson Bates courtship rumors might be true when she refused to answer a producer who asked her if there was someone she was interested in.
“I’d rather not answer that question,” she said while grinning and turning her head sideways.
However, Duggar fans shouldn’t expect to see another televised wedding anytime soon.
“We aren’t anxious about getting married,” Jinger recently told People . “But when you meet a boy, you examine their character.”
Do you think Joy-Anna Duggar and her sisters will all end up marrying men who have a lot in common with Jim Bob Duggar?
