WWE News: Titus O’Neil Comments On His Suspension, Says He Won’t Leave WWE

We’re about 30 days away from the return of former WWE Tag-Team Champion Titus O’Neil, who was controversially suspended by WWE chairman Vince McMahon following an incident during the closing moments of Daniel Bryan’s retirement ceremony.

At first, McMahon wanted to fire O’Neil over the incident. But Triple H was able to talk the chairman down to a fine and a suspension. Originally, McMahon hit O’Neil with a 90-day suspension. But, because of the fan backlash, O’Neil’s suspension was cut from 90 days to 60 days. But even though his suspension was reduced, he’ll still be missing out on WrestleMania 32, which would be his biggest pay day of the year.

O’Neil probably wouldn’t have had a major role at this year’s WrestleMania show, as he would probably be just another guy in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. So the suspension isn’t killing a potential career-making moment for the former Tag Champ. But, as previously stated, it’s going to take away his biggest paycheck of the year, and his chance to be a part of the biggest WrestleMania of all-time.

Until Thursday, Titus hadn’t publicly spoken about his suspension since it happened. During his interview with Rapzilla, Titus commented on his suspension, and he revealed that he won’t be taking Dave Bautista’s (aka Batista) advice, saying that he’s not planning on quitting WWE.

“(Batistia) is right. I can go and coach, I can do a lot of stuff, but at the end of the day, I’ve never quit on anything in my entire life.

“I always believe in all things there’s always positives in it. I made a mistake at an inopportune time. Regardless if it was too harsh or overreacting or whatever people have deemed it, it all stems from my mistake. Whether I agree with it or not, I am owning it. I’m doing what I’d normally do in any other situation.”

Titus also talked about how there are now many fans who are now interested in his career, when before he was suspended, they couldn’t have cared less about him, which is undoubtedly true. But whether WWE tries to make sure those fans continue caring about Titus after he returns remains to be seen.

“People who probably weren’t interested in me as a WWE superstar, are now interested in me as a man and a father…I’ll just take this punishment just like everything else, take a lemon and make lemonade.”

Prior to his suspension, WWE had broken Titus away from Darren Young, and they were planning on giving him a bit of a singles push. But the incident with the WWE chairman certainly derailed that push in the short-term, and it could very well have derailed it in the long-term as well.

In John Cena’s absence, Titus O’Neil has been the charitable face of the company, which is why WWE wanted to give him a singles push to begin with. Now, not only are there questions about his status as a well-pushed singles wrestler, but there are questions about his status as one of WWE’s charitable faces.

One thing is for sure, and that is, whenever he’s brought back to WWE television, he’ll be one of the most sympathetic characters the company will have. But, they may not even try to ride that momentum, which is unfortunate.

If the Titus O’Neil 60-day suspension went into effect on February 8, which is the night of the incident, then he’ll probably return on the April 11 episode of RAW, as that would be just over 60 days after the incident took place. But whether he returns to television on that date or not, he should be returning to WWE action at some point in mid-April.
