Lolo Jones Tweets About Guns After Team USA Loss
Lolo Jones is making headlines again this week, and not in a good way.
Jones was recently in the news for telling E! News that she was single and looking for a date after the Olympics were over. Lolo Jones has also talked about how she used to steal food as a child and how she is a virgin and plans to remain so until she is married.
Today, after the U.S. men’s team lost to Italy in archery, Jones thought it would be wise to express herself on Twitter. And if there is one thing she should have learned about olympians and Twitter, it’s that the two do not make a good combination.
Just today, fellow Team USA olympian Hope Solo blasted a color commentator for her analysis of the women’s soccer team’s win against Colombia. And earlier this week, Greek jumper Paraskevi “Voula” Papachristou was expelled for making a racist comment against Africans in Greece. Papachristou was “placed outside the Olympic team for statements contrary to the values and ideas of the Olympic movement.”
Jones’ twitter faux pas? Tweeting that Team USA would win a gun shooting competition.
Coming a little over a week after the theater shooting Aurora, Colo., which left 12 dead and 58 injured, Jones probably should have rethought her tweet.
Several users responded that the tweet was not funny and asked Jones to remove it.
Jones later tried to defend herself against the backlash, saying,
“sorry u guys only think of violence but I think of all the hunting I do w southerners in da south. Its impressive.”
Was Lolo Jones’ tweet in bad taste, or are people overreacting?
