WWE News: Big Backstage Update On WWE Diva Lana’s In-Ring Career, Heat On Her Once Again?
WWE Diva Lana has been with the company for a number of years now, and she’s even gotten physical in the ring off and on. However, she has seemingly never wanted to work a match with anyone, and WWE has protected her a great deal. A match with her would be like seeing Halley’s Comet, as it is something WWE will only allow us to see on a rare or even one-time basis. Now she is attacking Brie Bella left and right, and most fans assumed it would be ignorant of WWE to do this if there was no capitalization for Brie.
Now it appears WWE is finally giving us an 8-Diva Tag Team match that will take place at WrestleMania: Team Bella vs. Team Lana match. That means we will see Lana wrestle her first match ever with WWE. She has been a manager for years with the company and has never seemed to want to work an actual match, but now it looks like WWE talked her into doing it.
It does seem like a one-time thing, and she may not work a lot in the match, but the match happening at all is a big deal.
It is interesting that she is working at all. According to the Wrestling Observer, Lana now has more heat on her on top of the other she had dating back a number of months ago. The first go around, she started getting a lot of hate backstage over basically sabotaging the Summer Rae/Rusev angle. It is said that she leaked the picture of her being engaged to TMZ, and it said that she did not want to be in the ring.
On top of this, she was not happy WWE split her from her then boyfriend Rusev. This is all understandable, but it should have been spoken about before it happened. It was not smart to leak things to the press so that you can end an angle. Now WWE seems to be rewarding all of this by putting her name on the marquee as a “captain” of a female team for WrestleMania.
Not only is that strange alone, but the fact that she captains a team in her first match is sort of idiotic.
The reason for the team angle and not a singles match, according to the Observer, is due to the fact that Lana is not ready to work a singles match. Of course, this is Brie Bella’s last run with WWE, so giving her a match was nice. Hopefully, they’ll even allow her to win the match. That said, this angle progressing after WrestleMania is probably doubtful, as Bella plans to retire and spend time with her now retired husband Daniel Bryan.
The two of them have been wanting to start a family, and this would be the best time to do it, as both are done with their wrestling careers at a very young age. That means we should not expect Lana to be ready by WWE SummerSlam to work a match with Brie, as it is doubtful Brie will be around. However, she could do something with another WWE Diva. As of now, however, there are no plans for her to be a full-time in-ring talent.
It will be interesting to see how WWE uses her after WrestleMania time because having her as a part-time in-ring worker seems odd. Most think it would be best to have her either be a manager or a wrestler, as she is someone who cannot do both at a high level. At times, it feels as if she doesn’t even want to do both.
