‘Bates Motel’ Spoilers: Norman Bates Admitted Into A Mental Asylum–His Grip On Reality Slips As He Becomes ‘Psycho’

Bates Motel Season 4 spoilers have fans in a panic about what will unfold on Monday night’s premiere. In an episode titled “A Danger To Himself And Others,” Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore) appears to be losing his grip on reality and has his mother, Norma, gravely concerned about his mental status. According to Health Aim, there is a level of uncertainty on whether Norman will accept treatment, or refuse and lash out on those who love him–mainly his mother, Norma (Vera Farmiga), and brother, Dylan Massett (Max Thieriot).

In the final episode of Season 3, Norma visited Pineview Mental Institution to enquire about the cost involved to admit Norman for psychiatric care. She learned that it would cost an upward of over $20,000 per month. However, they had a high success rate and felt confident they could help her son. Norma wasn’t sure how she could swing it, but she knows that Norman needs help, and soon. Her fear is someone else will get hurt, or worse–Norman may never get better!

In the A&E teaser, Norman demands to see his mother from the asylum bed. He screams that he wants his mother. After speaking to the therapist, the doctor is unsure who is insane–Norma or Norman. The doctor pegs Norma as a master manipulator and believes that she had a big part in Norman’s descent into madness. Norma wasn’t ready to accept any of the blame for her son’s mental status; she firmly believes his psychotic break happened as a result of his father’s horrific physical and psychological abuse.

Bates Motel preview shows Norman telling someone that his mother is insane, and fears that she may have killed a few people. Will someone believe his terrifying tale about Norma Bates?

Over the past few months, A&E has teased that Norman could end up killing his mother during Season 4 of Bates Motel. It is an important plot point in the Psycho movie, so one has to assume that eventually that will happen in series. Whether it happens soon or even in Season 5 is anyone’s guess at this point. One thing is sure, Norman is falling into madness, and it will put him at odds with his mother.

Norma wants her son to get help, and according to Bates Motel spoilers, he will resist any help. In Norman’s mind, he doesn’t need any help–apparently, everyone else is the problem. Norma cannot take it anyone, and she (with Romero’s help) forces Norman into treatment and prays he will recover.

Freddie Highmore explains that Norman has always been a likable person, and he’s trying to hold on to that. He’s losing his grip on who his identity because he is becoming his mother–at least in his mind.

“There’s this switch. The loving side of him is going away this season, and he’s sinking deeper into his mind. There is another side of Norman assuming his mother’s identity. Right now, Norman is developing a proper relationship in his mind with his fantasy mother. Norman Bates is really starting to lose it; the end is near.”

It’s pretty clear from the previews for Season 4 that Norman believes that he and Norma are the same person, which puts him at odds with his real mother. Norma doesn’t understand why he is pulling away from her, and being violent towards her. If the end is coming, does that mean that Norman will kill his mother?

The producers of the show stated that Norma Bates will need to die at some point. However, they didn’t want to give away any plot points of Season 4. It seems likely that Norman will kill his mother towards the end of the season, and Season 5 will focus on how he gets away with killing her. Bates Motel Season 4 premieres on A&E on Monday night.
