‘The Big Bang Theory’ Spoilers: What Is Sheldon’s Weird Secret?
While Sheldon and Amy’s relationship has gotten markedly more intimate over the years on The Big Bang Theory, it might soon go up a notch — because Sheldon’s about to make a big revelation. The specifics are yet to be known, but executive producer Steven Molaro dropped a hefty tease to Entertainment Weekly.
“Very soon Sheldon is going to reveal a weird secret to Amy that he’s been hiding for a long time that nobody knows about.”
Still shots of Episode 201, “The Application Deterioration,” show Amy whispering with Bernadette and Penny; however, the episode synopsis reveals that Raj has been struggling with what to do about his ex-girlfriend Emily. Dr. Farrah-Fowler might not be spreading Sheldon’s weird secret — whatever it may be — so soon to her friends, just discussing the specifics of Raj’s situation.
While the Big Bang Theory gang just celebrated 200 episodes, making it one of network television’s longest running shows, the cast is apparently still open to sticking around past Season 10, its current renewal. During the 200th episode celebrations, Kaley Cuoco told TV Line she is up for playing Penny past next year.
“I think it’s a given that we want to be here. That’s the overall consensus. It might be a sticky road, but if I have anything to do with it, we’d be here for much longer. That’s the goal.”
Jim Parsons agreed with Cuoco, saying he was on the show for the long haul — and couldn’t imagine any of his fellow cast members, or any actor, leaving such a good working situation such as The Big Bang Theory.
“If the opportunity to go past Season 10 came up, I’d be very hard-pressed to tell you who [among the cast] might say no — if anybody would. I wouldn’t.
“The writers are still so devoted and on top of it. The stories that come out are still so much fun to play — there’s no drudgery aspect to this.
“I’m trying to imagine when an actor in a good situation would go, ‘I’m out of here!.’ I don’t think it would be between Seasons 10 and 11 — not if things are going well.”
Past Big Bang Theory spoilers had teased romance for Leonard’s mom — to a point. Entertainment Weekly wrote that, following the birthday party event in the 200th episode, Sheldon might have company in the club of men who have kissed the elder Dr. Hofstadter. Of course, fans who viewed the episode saw the men’s CalTech colleague, Dr. Barry Kripke, flirt with her.
All seven members of the core cast appeared on Conan in anticipation of the landmark episode — and ended up making out. The on-stage smoochfest happened after Conan O’Brien showed a still photo of Mayim Bialik and Johnny Galecki on the set of Blossom as teenagers. It was the first “stage kiss” for both actors, and the audience urged them to re-create the moment. After a commercial break, the entire cast took part.
As for Sheldon’s secret, Molaro ruled out anything to do with his grandmother’s engagement ring that he once planned to give to Amy. Movieweb speculated it’s nothing sexual since Amy and Sheldon have been intimate. The site also ruled out a “diagnosis” revelation, as calling it “weird” would be insensitive. Saying at first that Sheldon could finally open up about his alien origins, the site backtracked and admitted that would just be the plot of Jim Parsons’ flick Home.
The Big Bang Theory airs Thursday nights at 8 p.m. on CBS.
