Joseph Randle, Former Dallas Cowboys Running Back, Arrested For Sixth Time

Early Sunday morning, former Dallas Cowboys running back Joseph Randle was arrested. ESPN reports that the football player was taken to jail shortly after 1 a.m. and was being held on $150,000 bond, according to a Sedgwick County, Kansas, law enforcement official.

This arrest is Randle’s sixth in just 17 months, with his last being less than a month ago, ESPN reports. Randle was detained by authorities regarding charges he failed to appear in court in connection with prior legal incidents, according to TMZ.

CBS Sports reports that Randle was released from jail just last Thursday, after spending nine days in custody because he failed to come up with $100,000 in bail, stating he could not afford to pay it. For that arrest he faced seven charges, including one count for possessing marijuana, and four counts for aggravated battery, according to CBS Sports.

It appears Randle’s legal woes began in October, 2014, when he was arrested at a Dillard’s department store in Frisco, Texas, accused of shoplifting men’s Polo undergarments and a bottle of Gucci Guilty Black cologne, according to ESPN. For that incident, Randle was released on bond and given probation.

In February, 2015, Randle was again arrested, this time in his hometown of Wichita, Kansas. The Dallas Morning News reports that police responded to a domestic violence call from a woman in Randle’s hotel room. The woman, reportedly the mother of Randle’s child, called authorities saying the athlete was “…out of control,” according to the Dallas Morning News. Randle was taken into custody and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, but was released to appear in court at a later date.

In November, 2015, TMZ reported that Randle was arrested for a third time outside a Mulvane, Kansas, casino at around 10:40 p.m. “after he was told to leave and went berserk on cops.” TMZ noted that Randle was asked to leave the establishment after allegedly being intoxicated, and later on his way out the door, it is alleged he attacked a security guard and spit on the casino floor. For that incident, Randle faced a number of charges, including misdemeanor assault, disorderly conduct, criminal trespass, battery, and felony criminal threats, TMZ reports. Randle’s bail was set at $25,000 and he was subsequently released.

In early February, 2016, Randle was arrested once again near the home of his former girlfriend, according to the Dallas Morning News. The report indicates Randle showed up at the woman’s Irving, Texas, home, anticipating he could get some rest prior to driving back to his home state of Kansas. After he rang the doorbell, the woman’s mother called police, who found the football player sitting in front of the residence in a parked car. After a warrant check was run, it was discovered Randle was wanted for speeding in a nearby school zone, thus he was arrested with bail set at $359.

That same month, just 20 days later, Randle was arrested in Kansas on “suspicion of aggravated battery, drug possession and criminal damage to property,” according to Fox Sports. NBCDFW News reports that the assault charges stem from accusations that Randle backed his car into three people when exiting a party the day before, and that he later forced his way into a Wichita residence he had been asked to leave.

In November, 2015, the Dallas Cowboys released Randle, after giving him a fine for the Texas shoplifting incident, according to the Washington Post. Around the same time, the NFL suspended Randle for violating the organization’s personal conduct policy, reports NFL.com.

Thus, Randle’s future in football remains unknown, however, NFL.com posits, “Randle has ability, but the circumstances surrounding his departure from Dallas combined with his suspension could keep teams from pursuing the running back as an in-season option.”
