Donald Trump Avoids Answering Question On Gay Marriage: Says He Has Answered It ‘150 Times’
The GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump clearly refused to answer a question about gay marriage in a press conference Saturday night.
The Republican Presidential Candidate aspirant has been well noted for not giving distinct opinions on gay marriage and LGBTQ rights.
Trump faced a question related to same-sex marriage put forward by a reporter for the Daily Mail at the press conference, to which his answer was reluctant.
A reporter for the Daily Mail asked Trump whether or not he supports gay marriage rights. The reporter also questioned Trump if he might appoint U.S. Supreme Court Justices who are expected to work for reversing the Obergefell v. Hodges decision, the landmark decision that legalized gay and lesbian marriage in U.S.
“We have a policy on it. And I’ve said it very very strongly,” replied Trump.
“And I think you know it. And it’s all done and, you know, in a campaign how many times do I have to say it?” he added.
However, he didn’t shed a light on what the policy is.
The press conference where Trump was seen hesitant in answering the gay marriage question was held following his electoral split of four states with competitor Ted Cruz.
According to the Daily Mail, the Republican frontrunner has taken both sides in the conflict regarding the Supreme Court’s decision of legalizing gay marriage.
During an interview on Fox News in January, Trump had said that he wished the court had left the issue to the states to resolve. In the interview, he had also added that he would consider appointing justices to overturn the Obergefell decision.
On several occasions, Trump has also been documented insisting that he favors “Traditional marriage,” the one “between a man and a woman.”
On the other hand, in September on MSNBC‘s Morning Joe, Trump was recorded condemning the action of Kim Davis, a county clerk who had refused to issue the marriage license to gay couples.
“You have to go with it. The decision’s been made, and that is the law of the land,” the businessman-turned-politician had stated.
Despite his several claims of having strong policies on homosexual marriages, Trump’s website has revealed nothing much on the topic as of now.
The campaign website of Trump today released detailed information on his policy regarding health care reform, trade issues, taxes, veterans’ affairs, immigration and gun rights – but nothing at all about gay marriages.
Trump refused to say anything definitive on the issue of homosexual unions and he also prevented reporters from asking any further questions on the topic.
“We’re not here for discussing that. But everybody knows how I feel on it,” he said.
Nevertheless, reporters have found a place to express their dissatisfaction towards Trump’s answers: Twitter. Several reporters have protested the way Trump handled the question related to gay marriage on the press conference.

After several attempts of dodging the question, Trump finally ordered the reporter to sit down. Trump also insisted that the reporter was aware of his position (on gay marriage).
Trump’s campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, was also approached with the same question, which he denied answering.
“You’ll have to ask him,” Lewandowski said. “I don’t speak for the candidate.”
In his attempt to avoid answering the question, Trump even claimed that he has said it (his opinions on gay marriages) “150 times.”
However, at the end of the conference, as Trump walked through a crowd of his supporters, he, although unwillingly, promised a phone conversation with the wilful reporter.
“I’ve answered that question so many times,” He said. “Call me tomorrow.”
