‘Good Wife’ Spoilers: Is Peter Florrick Off To The Big House? Guest Star Matthew Morrison Says He’ll Look Good In Orange
When The Good Wife started nearly seven seasons ago, Peter Florrick, an embattled Illinois politician, was off to prison as the result of a scandal. Florrick’s absence forced his wife, Alicia, to return to the practice of law. While Peter and Alicia’s relationship has never been romantic on The Good Wife, it has oscillated between hostile and courteous, as Alicia has advanced her career and Peter has made a mostly triumphant return to politics.
But will Peter Florrick’s dirty political dealings come back to haunt him yet again? Matthew Morrison, who starts a recurring guest role on The Good Wife this Sunday, thinks maybe so. Morrison is set to play Assistant District Attorney Connor Fox, whose mission appears clear: take down Governor Florrick. Morrison told the Hollywood Reporter he’s relishing the opportunity to see Peter finally get his due.
“Me personally, as a ‘Good Wife’ fan, I’m looking forward to Peter Florrick going down. He’s been a bad boy for a long time so I think orange is going to look really good on Peter Florrick if that’s where it ends up going.”
Morrison, unlike another prominent guest star, calls himself an avid viewer of The Good Wife. Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who plays Alicia’s charismatic love interest, revealed earlier this season he had never seen the show before he was cast. Morgan was friends with Julianna Margulies and his mother was a fan, but before taking on the role of Jason Crouse, had to go back and watch old episodes to catch up on the series.
Morrison, on the other hand, is such a fan of The Good Wife that he pitched his involvement with the program while the show’s producers, Robert and Michelle King, were talking to him about a different project. To hear Morrison tell the tale, he repeatedly brought the conversation back to The Good Wife. Eventually, he got a part.
“[T]hey were really pitching me for their show ‘BrainDead,’ which is their new series that they’re coming out with. I loved the idea of it but I couldn’t stop talking to them about ‘The Good Wife’ because I told them it’s like my favorite show. I love it so much. They were like, ‘Oh that’s great, but this other show…’ And I was like, ‘Oh, that’s great, but ‘Good Wife’ – what’s going to happen?!'”
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Morrison rejected the idea that his character is a villain, preferring to cast him as a staunch advocate of the justice system. The former Glee star had real-life inspiration for ADA Fox: Patrick Fitzgerald, an Illinois attorney instrumental in the downfalls of Rod Blagojevich and George Ryan.
Morrison is best known to television audiences for his six seasons on Glee, and he’s a successful Broadway actor. Despite those singing and dancing credentials, Morrison told Entertainment Weekly he had no problem adjusting to the courtroom drama setting of The Good Wife.
“I like the grandness of being in a courtroom. I feel a little in my element in the courtroom just because I’m comfortable on stage and it feels very presentational.”
Fans of The Good Wife know that the FBI is investigating Peter Florrick, and Alicia has gotten a little more than cozy with her law firm’s investigator, Jason Crouse. These stories continue Sunday nights at 8 p.m. The final episode of The Good Wife airs May 8 on CBS.
