When Blake Shelton finally confirmed his relationship with Gwen Stefani, many fans were taken by complete surprise with the news. While the two have not been afraid to show off their love for each other, it’s easy to forget how Shelton and Stefani both went through divorces this past summer. With that in mind, just how did this unlikely pairing manage to forge one of the more epic romances in recent years?

According to People, starting a new relationship was not high on their priority lists at the end of last year. As fans will recall, Shelton divorced Miranda Lambert in July while Stefani made her split with Gavin Rossdale official a month later. While Stefani’s focus was on her children after her divorce, it wasn’t long before her romance with Shelton caught fire.

“She was heartbroken for her children that the marriage wasn’t going to work. She tried so hard for the kids to keep the marriage together,” a source told the outlet. “Then here came this ray of sunshine who did make her smile, and now he’s one of the most positive people in her life.”

Since they started seeing each other, Shelton and Stefani have been almost inseparable. From spending the holidays in Shelton’s hometown of Tishomingo, Oklahoma to their recent appearance at an Oscar’s party, their relationship has really taken off quickly.

This is partly due to their shared interest in the music industry, but also because they both have a lot of things in common. This includes their overall thoughts on life, which is something that has helped them get through their recent difficult times.

“They’re both very happy, fun people. They have the same perspective on life, and there’s a sense of adventure,” the source explained. “They have turned lemons into lemonade and have turned a bad situation for both of them into something great. They’re both much happier.”

Speaking of their recent outings, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani recently wowed fans with a red carpet appearance following the Oscars. Stefani wore a stunning red dress for the event while Shelton sported his usual casual attire. Stefani posted an image of her posing with Shelton on Instagram following their red carpet debut.

With their relationship reaching new heights every week, a source recently told Hollywood Life that Shelton spends most of his time in L.A. with Stefani. Even though he has a mansion in Beverly Hills, the country star is barely home and keeps things at his house to a minimum.

“Blake Shelton has been renting a house in Beverly Hills. He keeps the pad empty, barely furnished, undecorated and looking like a fraternity house, crash pad,” the insider stated. “Blake doesn’t mind the bare amenities at his place cause he spends most of his free time at his girlfriend Gwen’s more comfortable home nearby.”

The state of Shelton’s home is not that surprising, especially considering his real residence is in Oklahoma. Furthermore, Shelton doesn’t have any kids, which makes his minimalistic style all the more natural.

Fortunately for Stefani, Shelton is currently in town for the new season of The Voice. Not only does this mean that the two will have ample opportunity to spend time together, but it also means that fans will get to see more of the couple together in the coming weeks.

Although Stefani is not one of the judges this season, she will appear as Shelton’s mentor on the show. Hopefully, this means their epic romance will once again unfold on live television, which was definitely one of the hallmarks of their relationship last year.
