WWE News: Batista Claims Vince McMahon Made Triple H Suspend Titus O’Neil
It’s been nearly one month since WWE chairman Vince McMahon decided to fine and suspend former WWE Tag-Team Champion Titus O’Neil following an incident during Daniel Bryan’s retirement party. Many believed that McMahon overreacted when he chose to fine and suspend O’Neil, but McMahon has chosen to stick to his guns, which will mean that O’Neil will end up missing WrestleMania 32.
Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Batista, who is close with O’Neil, said publicly that he told Titus to quit the company following his suspension. So far, Titus hasn’t taken “The Animal’s” advice.
Several weeks ago, Batista told TMZ Sports that Vince McMahon “double f***ed” Titus O’Neil by not only fining him, but by also suspending him and causing him to miss this year’s WrestleMania, which would be the biggest payday of the year for him.

In an interview on the Mike Calta Show, Batista further explained why he’s so angry over the Titus O’Neil situation, saying that Vince McMahon is constantly grabbing guys backstage in a playful way, much like Titus grabbed him, and while “The Animal” acknowledged that O’Neil’s behavior may have been at the wrong place at the wrong time, he still doesn’t feel like his buddy should have been suspended or fined.
Batista also revealed that Vince McMahon didn’t even suspend O’Neil himself, saying that the WWE chairman had Triple H break the news to Titus instead of doing it himself.
“If you ever spent any time with Vince or walked through the hallway, Vince is always grabbing you and he wants to wrestle, and he wants to tell you how much he benched the day before. He’s just that type of dude. It was just one of those moments… and even if, I think Vince — this is just second hand information — I heard Vince said it was just wrong time, wrong place. If that’s the case, that’s when you take a guy like Titus, who is such a loyal dude, such a good dude, you take him aside and say ‘hey, man, that was the wrong time and wrong place, don’t do that again.’
“It never would have happened again, it would have been done. But Vince not only fined and suspended (Titus), and he’s missing WrestleMania, but he didn’t even do it himself. He had Hunter do it. It’s just so ridiculous, man. I just don’t get it. I think he should leave.”
Batista has been on the receiving end of a Vince McMahon overreaction, which was detailed in Chris Jericho’s third book. Basically, the story was that Batista and Jericho were scheduled to have a cage match, and Batista’s feeling was that cage matches should always involve blood, and at that time, blood was banned in WWE.
During the match, Batista decided to cut his own forehead open, which meant that he was intentionally breaking one of the company’s rules. Several days later, Batista was hit with a fine of $100,000. So, it’s safe to say that “The Animal” knows what it’s like to have the WWE chairman overreact to something that he’s done.
It seems clear that Titus O’Neil will be a huge sympathetic figure whenever he does return to WWE television, but it’s unclear if WWE will actually take advantage of it.
Before his suspension, O’Neil was getting a nice little singles push, but who knows if that’ll continue upon his WWE return. It’s also unclear if he’ll continue to be one of the company’s top charitable figures, much like he was before the WWE chairman decided to send him home for sixty days.
