Mischa Barton: Former ‘It’ Girl To Appear On ‘DWTS,’ To Star In ‘The Hoarder’
Mischa Barton was the “it” girl of the early to mid 2000s. She was best known for her role of rich girl Marissa Cooper on the popular Fox drama, The OC. Now, the actress is set to take over Hollywood in two new projects.
Mischa Barton has been confirmed to compete on Season 22 of Dancing With the Stars, an inside source told Us Weekly. The magazine previously revealed that Fuller House star Jodie Sweetin will also compete on the long-running ABC dance competition series. The full list of contestants will be revealed on Good Morning America on Tuesday, March 8.
The OC alum will also star in the upcoming horror flick, The Hoarder. Mischa Barton will star alongside Robert Knepper, who is best known for his role as Theodore Bagwell in Prison Break. The Hoarder is about a young woman (Barton) who checks out her fiancé’s storage unit, and finds that he’s storing more than just furniture inside.Check out the haunting trailer for The Hoarder below.
The reason why Mischa Barton fell off the radar over the past few years is due to her alleged alcohol and drug addiction. In 2013, the child star gave an exclusive interview to People magazine about her downward spiral. She described her lifestyle as “work hard, play hard,” but Barton’s downward spiral began when she arrested in December, 2007, for a DUI and marijuana possession.
Two years later, her parents staged an intervention, which landed Barton in the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center psychiatric ward under an involuntary 5150 hold after Barton threatened to kill herself.
“It was a full-on breakdown. I was under enormous pressure,” she spoke out about that tragic time.
It also has been reported that Barton’s faced financial problems for the past year. Barton made headlines earlier this month when a report published on TMZ revealed that her new Volkswagen was repossessed after she failed to make back payments on the car. This report just came five months after Audi threatened to take Mischa’s Q3 SUV away from her when she didn’t make payments on her that vehicle. Volkswagen filed a claim against the starlet, and claimed she least one of the company’s cars and stopped making payments on it. TMZ obtained the legal documents, which say that the actress owes $25,000.
Back in September, the actress did not make the reported $696.29 monthly payments for the past four months for her brand-new leased Audi Q3. The leasing company demanded that Barton should return the SUV, according to TMZ. The site even provided the celebrity gossip site with legal documents.
Barton has also had issues with her mom, Nuala. Back in April, she sued her “greedy stage mother” for stealing a portion of her earnings when she worked as Barton’s manager. She also claimed that her own mom forced her out of her own home. Despite her financial problems, Barton has been stepping out at several movie premieres and red carpet events, and has been looking much like her old self.Mischa Barton made a name for herself on The OC from 2003 to 2006. She also starred in Closing The Ring, Homecoming, Notting Hill, The Sixth Sense, Virgin Territory, and Walled In, along with short-lived WB series, The Beautiful Life.
In addition to acting, Barton launched a cosmetics and handbag line at her boutique, located in London. Hopefully, her new film and stint on DWTS will make her a household name yet again.
