‘Fallout 4’ Fan Creates Weapon Wear And Tear Animation — Good Idea For Survival Mode?
The Fallout 4 Boston wasteland got more interesting as a Reddit user put together an animation of what a weapon would look like if it was used one too many times. This could make for a nice mod idea. Also, the upcoming Survival Mode has enough trials and tribulations for the Vault 111 lone wanderer, so why not further complicate his/her life?

Just like many in the world of gaming, many have taken their time to let their wasteland creative juices flow with mods, inspirational ideas, and contributions to the Fallout 4 game. Though there are condition statuses for Power Armor, there is no such thing for weapons, as cited by Reddit user Hazza42.
The Fallout 4 game fan created an animation of an exploding gun falling to pieces via normal wear and tear. This seems to be an accurate representation should this come to pass as to the durability of said weapons, garnering a visual simulation of how far gone your weapon is. Perhaps this will inspire the Reddit user or others to put a Fallout 4 mod in place?
The Reddit thread turned into kind of an AMA (Ask Me Anything) session with Hazza42 ferrying questions from the wasteland game fans. Some asked if an exploding weapon goes off in your hand deals damage.
“Possibly yeah. I like the idea of a plasma rifle breaking and you getting irradiated, or a Fat Man falling apart and you have to catch the mini nuke before it hits the ground in front of you.”
Someone wondered how the whole thing was modeled, and Hazza42 said a friend actually helped him out, extracting the content from Fallout 4. The animator is hopeful that he can create a corresponding mod before Bethesda.
“A good friend of mine actually extracted the models from the game itself, I then prettied them up and rigged it all before animating it. The models themselves were gorgeous and that was what inspired me to animate them in the first place! Bethesda really outdid themselves this time in the modeling and texturing department.”
Perhaps other ideas involving weapon difficulties and maintenance should come into play? For instance, a gun jamming at an inopportune time for ballistic weapons? That being said, it looks like Hazza42 may be onto something here.
This leads retrospectively to what Geek mentioned when it came to some mods in previous Fallout renditions that would be good inspirations for future game DLC. Why stop at just guns when there is ammo to consider as well? After all, there was the Pitt DLC that included an ammo press for Fallout 3.
This allowed for changing of caliber or cartridge types to other needed types. With New Vegas, another spin took it beyond, taking already used shells/cartridges and then reusing them. Perks associated with it also followed. It was pretty interesting and complicated component level stuff.

Since the Fallout 4 game doesn’t have this ability, it seems it would take away from the survivalist feel to it. Although, Hazza42 seems to prefer otherwise and just seems to be entertained by the animation, according to Game Rant.
“While I love that I don’t have to worry about things like repairing all my weapons anymore, I think it would be really cool to see an energy weapon just explode in your hands after too much use.”
But perhaps with the upcoming Fallout 4 Survival Mode, could this change in the future? It’s already a beast enough as it is with the ability to maintain your own health with food, water, medical supplies, rest, and so on, so why challenge your own vault dweller?
