‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Is Set To Have An Insane Amount Of 68 Marvel Characters In It
When it comes time for Avengers: Infinity War to finally drop in theaters, directors Joe and Anthony Russo have already said that it will bring together the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). That sounds monstrous, but some fans may not totally realize just how big that actually is. It has now been revealed that there will actually be 68 different and distinct characters in the two-part film coming out in 2018 and 2019.
Last month, at the Wizard World New Orleans Comic Con, the Russos let it be known that there would be 67 characters in Infinity War. Well, they’ve had to correct themselves because they either made a mistake or have since made a change over the course of the last month.
Yesterday at the Wizard World Cleveland Comic Con, the Russos had to make sure that everyone knew there were going to be 68 characters in the movie, according to Cleveland.com. Yes, one more has been added to it and while that’s a lot, Joe Russo admits it was a challenge, but necessary.
“We have to tell a story and that story has to be built around the characters’ emotional arcs. And we can only have so many of those.”
What that means exactly is that not every single character will be singled out to have a huge role, but they’re still necessary.
Yes, many of the characters will play “ancillary roles,” but that makes sense as a lot of them have already had their origin stories. Fans already know the background of many of them, and most have already made their debuts or will in Captain America: Civil War, due out in May. Fans have already started trying to figure out just who will be a part of Avengers: Infinity War, and it’s easy to determine some of them. The problem is that no-one really knows who will make it through Civil War alive or unscathed. If all were to carry on from this point and remain living, here is a general idea (not confirmed) of who could appear in Infinity War.
- Team Cap – Captain America, The Falcon, The Winter Soldier, Ant-Man, Hawkeye, The Scarlet Witch (6)
- Team Iron Man – Iron Man, Vision, War Machine, Black Widow, Black Panther (5)
- Spider-Man
- Guardians of the Galaxy — Star-Lord, Drax, Groot, Rocket Raccoon
- Nick Fury
- Hulk
- Thor
- Thanos
- Loki (?)
- Doctor Strange
- Captain Marvel
- Maria Hill
That list right there is just rattling off some names, and the list still hardly comes even remotely close to 68, as it is just 23. One look at that and anyone and everyone knows the movie would be huge, but there are at least more than 40 others joining the fight.
Den Of Geek revealed that Dr. Erik Selvig (Stellan Skarsgard) could end up coming back by then, and that adds at least one more.
“I have a five-film deal with them, and they still have one option. Thor 3 is not on my slate, but maybe the next Avengers.”
When looking at what Marvel has on the horizon, The Wasp can be added to the number. Perhaps there will be some characters brought in from the Marvel TV universe which could add to that low-ball number right now.
There is Agent Phil Coulson, Daisy, some of the other Inhumans, and others could join the party. Maybe they’ll go to the Marvel series on Netflix and bring in Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage, but that remains to be seen.Still, that’s only going to get the number up to around 35 or 40.
The Fantastic Four and the X-Men unfortunately won’t be able to join in on the fight against Thanos, due to movie rights and all that.
Avengers: Infinity War is going to hit theaters in two parts, with Part 1 being released on May 4, 2018. Part 2 will open a year later on May 3, 2019. 68 characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe is going to make the two-part epic one of the biggest comic book movies of all time, and it’s going to show just how vast and deep Marvel really is.
