Golden Raspberry Awards Winners List Revealed: ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’ Leads 2016 Razzie Winners [Breaking]
Golden Raspberry Awards (Razzies) winners have been revealed for 2016. On the Golden Raspberry winners list is Fifty Shades of Grey as a clear leader for the past year’s films. There was a tie for Worst Picture of the Year, though, as Fantastic Four and Fifty Shades of Grey shared the honor. The other 2015 nominees in the category were Jupiter Ascending, Paul Blart Mall Cop 2, and Pixels.
In the category of worst actress, the nominees were Katherine Heigl from Home Sweet Hell, Dakota Johnson from Fifty Shades of Grey, Mila Kunis from Jupiter Ascending, Jennifer Lopez from The Boy Next Door, and Gwyneth Paltrow from Mortdecai. It was Dakota Johnson from Fifty Shades of Grey who won it this year.
Those weren’t the only Razzies that Fifty Shades of Grey won either. The film also took home the award for worst actor (Jamie Dornan), worst screenplay (Kelly Marcel), and worst screen combo (Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson). Despite taking home the People’s Choice Award for best actress this year, Johnson didn’t do very well with the voters at the Golden Raspberry Awards.
The 2016 Golden Raspberry Award winners list also didn’t take into account how successful Fifty Shades of Grey was at the box office. The film made just over $166 million in the United States alone. In the foreign box office, Fifty Shades brought in another $405 million. That puts its total box office right above $571 million so far, with the potential for additional money with a re-release in coordination with the first sequel.
The other actors up against Jamie Dornan for the title of worst actor in the 2015 Golden Raspberry Awards were Johnny Depp from Mortdecai, Kevin James from Paul Blart Mall Cop 2, Adam Sandler from The Cobbler and Pixels, and Channing Tatum from Jupiter Ascending. Even with two movies in the category, Sandler couldn’t keep up with the disdain that the Razzies decided to show to Fifty Shades of Grey.
Sam Taylor-Johnson, who directed Fifty Shades of Grey, did escape making it a near clean-sweep of the main film categories. This is where it would have been interesting to see the vote totals for the category, as the winner (or loser) was Josh Trank. Trank directed the re-booted Fantastic Four, which tied for the worst picture of the year. The other three nominees in the category were Tom Six from Human Centipede 3, Andy Fickman from Paul Blart Mall Cop 2, and Andy and Lana Wachowski from Jupiter Ascending.
In the category of worst screen combo, the Razzies didn’t pull any punches in declaring Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan (Fifty Shades of Grey) as the winners (losers). They beat out (lost to) Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, and Jamie Bell from Fantastic Four, Johnny Depp and his glued-on mustache from Mortdecai, Kevin James and either his Segway or glued-on mustache from Paul Blart Mall Cop 2, and Adam Sandler and any pair of shoes from The Cobbler. Despite not getting a lot of attention during its release, The Cobbler has definitely received a lot of negative press thanks to the Razzies.
The sequel to Fifty Shades of Grey comes out in 2017 and is called Fifty Shades Darker. It will also star Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, with the cast also including Kim Basinger, Marcia Gay Harden, Rita Ora, and Max Martini. James Foley is the director of the second film to come from author E.L. James. Will the next Fifty Shades film find a lot of votes from the 2018 Golden Raspberrry Awards? Or will another film steal the show when the Razzies revel the worst films of 2017?
