‘God Blessed Us’: Joey Feek’s Prayers Are Answered As She Receives Life-Changing News, Beats The Odds

Joey and Rory Feed have been praying for miracles ever since Joey was diagnosed with terminal cervical cancer. Following the diagnosis, Joey made the difficult decision to leave the hospital and seek hospice care at home. Through all of the trials the family has faced, Joey and Rory Feek have remained strong in their Christian faith and Joey has beat the odds as she continues to spend time with her family, recently celebrating her daughter Indy’s second birthday and the Joey + Rory Grammy nomination. Meanwhile, Rory says God has provided a variety of miracles over the past few weeks and decided to share the life-changing news with fans.

Rory took to his personal blog This Life I Live to discuss the miracles that the family has experienced over the last few weeks. Rory notes that he is constantly amazed by his wife Joey Feek and that despite her cancer, God continues to bless the family in unimaginable ways including their recent Grammy nomination.

“God has blessed us with the gift of something even bigger than a Grammy award this year… perspective.”

Rory notes that despite not winning the Grammy, that he and Joey were beyond thankful for the nomination and that Joey has made Rory promise that if they are nominated next year, or in the future, that he will go to the awards ceremony for her. However, the Grammy nomination isn’t the only thing that Joey and Rory have to be thankful for this month. The pair also celebrated their daughter Indy’s second birthday together. Though it is something that many people take for granted, it was an answered prayer for Joey. The doting mother was told that she likely wouldn’t live to see her daughter’s birthday, but that didn’t stop her from making the request to God. Following her diagnosis with cervical cancer and admitting herself into hospice care, Joey informed fans that her final wish was to be able to enjoy one last birthday with Indy before she passed. Her wish was answered and Joey celebrated Indy’s birthday last week.

As if beating the odds to experience her daughter’s birthday wasn’t enough, Joey has also been given peace of mind in the past few weeks as the couple’s Hymns album is selling out in stores across America. In fact, the album is doing so well that Rory says it will provide financial security to cover not only Joey’s medical bills but also his future now that he has revealed he will not be continuing his country music career without Joey. Joey + Rory’s new album has reached the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Country music and Billboard’s Contemporary Christian Album and Christian Video chart. In response, Rory says they are beyond blessed and can’t believe the album’s success.

“When the label called to give us the news I immediately took the phone in to Joey. This recording was ‘hers’ from the beginning. This is one that she has always wanted to make, and she’s worked so hard to make it happen, in spite of the difficult circumstances she is facing. As I congratulated her, she responded through tears, ‘No, Honey, this is God’s record….'”

Rory notes that the success of this album is significant as it marks the end of his music career. He says it is also providing Joey with peace knowing that after she passes the family will have the financial security that they need to get through difficult times.

“Lots of folks have been buying our new Hymns album and stores across the country have had a hard time keeping them in stock since they went on sale. In time those sales could turn into some income for our family and that could really help, now that there are no more concerts or income from shows.”

With so many amazing blessings in Joey and Rory Feek’s life, the family says they are now simply enjoying the time they have left with Joey and making the most of these special moments. Joey has even recently been cooking for the family from her bed and is enjoying the little things in life like watching Indy grow and spending some much needed intimate time with Rory.

Rory revealed that the pair were able to celebrate Valentine’s Day together and that he was even able to cuddle with Joey in her bed for the first time since last November.

“I haven’t been able to be in the same bed with my wife or hold her in my arms since the beginning of November – when she made her last trip to the hospital. But for one sweet half-an-hour… that changed on Valentines day.”

Rory Feek ended his post about their blessed week by thanking the Lord for all he has done for their family and Joey during this difficult time. Though Joey has not seen physical healing, the Feeks are noting the many miracles that they have experienced on a daily basis saying prayers are being answered.

“Thank you Lord that we were able to all be together for this special day, for this special week. Thank you, thank you, thank you.”
