Ben Affleck Didn’t Like The First ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice’ Script, So He Rewrote It

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is only a month away from its highly anticipated premiere, which will showcase Ben Affleck’s debut as the new Batman. While fans can certainly expect an action packed and thrilling affair, Affleck apparently didn’t like parts of the original script, so he re-wrote them while in costume.

An inside source told Us Magazine that Affleck “would go into wardrobe and get all suited up for the day in his Batman suit.” After getting ready for his part, Affleck “would sit around reworking the script” because “he wasn’t thrilled with it and would find himself on multiple occasions fixing it the day of.”

Of course, this isn’t the first time Affleck has written a script for a successful movie. According to The Daily Mail, Affleck took home an Academy Award for his part in writing the 1998 film, Good Will Hunting. With his past experience to build on, Affleck was unafraid to tweak his lines.

Furthermore, Affleck’s obsession with the script is a nod at his excitement for portraying the character in film. In fact, along with his enthusiasm for the comics, Affleck recently told Entertainment Weekly that he was surprised that director Zack Snyder even offered him the role.

“My first reaction was, ‘Are you sure?’ At the time I was 40, 41, and had just finished Argo, and I felt like, ‘This seems like a strange way to get Batman.'”

While the verdict is still out on whether or not Affleck’s version of the caped crusader is well received, fans can rest assured that Affleck has worked hard on the part. Even more, Michael Wilkinson, the costume designer for the movie, told PEOPLE that fans will be impressed when they see Affleck in action.

“I think people are going to be blown away by his Bruce Wayne and his Batman. It just feels right, like he was born to be this character.”

Wilkinson added that part of what makes Ben Affleck perfect for the role are his physical attributes. This includes Affleck’s physical presence on camera, and his ability to produce a believable and intimidating character.

“He’s sexy, he’s smart and seductive,” he explained. “He’s strong and a little intimidating and scary, he’s a real brawler, there’s nothing precious about his Bruce Wayne. He rolls up his sleeves and gets it done… The costume is very intimidating and huge and I think he intimidated himself when he looked in the mirror, so that’s a good sign.”

Affleck is starring opposite Henry Cavill, who plays Superman in the film. The movie features the two heroes squaring off with each other and builds from the events that unfolded at the end of Man of Steel.

In preparing for the role, Affleck shared how it was hard to compete against Cavill, who was in top shape after Man of Steel. Despite the difficulties, Affleck was more than up for the challenge.

“I saw the first movie he was in and I was like, ‘Wow, I don’t know if I’m going to be in quite that good of shape,’ I figured I had a lower bar to reach because I’m just a man after all, but I ended up putting on about 20 pounds of muscle, which is really hard to do in my advanced age.”

As far as what fans can expect from the upcoming movie, Wilkinson promised that audiences will not be disappointed. “Hold onto your socks because they’re about to blown off,” he stated.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is set to premiere in theaters on March 25.
