WWE Rumors: ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin Thinks Main Event Star Will Turn Heel
Currently, WWE has all of their energy and attention focused on making WrestleMania 32 one of the biggest events in history. Huge matches are taking place. Shane McMahon has returned and is fighting a Hell in a Cell match with the Undertaker. Numerous legends will be appearing in Dallas. The main event will pit Triple H vs. Roman Reigns for the WWE Title, and fans aren’t thrilled with it, but that’s because “Stone Cold” Steve Austin thinks Reigns needs to turn heel.
Austin’s career was one that saw him bounce back and forth between being a babyface and being a heel. Most of the time, the fans cheered him either way, but there were times when he could pull off the heel role and have the crowds boo him and give him a lot of heat.
One of those times in WWE is when he was paired with Triple H as the “Two-Man Power Trip,” and they captured the WWE Title, Intercontinental Title, and Tag Team Titles at the same time. Austin knew how to be a serious heel, and it made the fans appreciate him even more when he turned face. That’s going to be even more obvious when Austin shows up at WrestleMania 32 in one of many possible ideas that Bleacher Report has come up with for him.
That’s exactly what Austin thinks Roman Reigns needs, as he said on a recent episode of The Steve Austin Show.
“The kid has got to have a heel run before he’s going to be universally loved because that’s just the way that I see it. I’ve always said that I think the guy needs to be a heel first, but, nonetheless, that’s not my call. That’s the booking committee’s call or Vince’s call. That’s what’s going to make it fun again because everybody is going to be so onboard with booing him! I’m telling you, once he goes through that process, whether that takes one year, two years, whatever, then, they’re going to end up loving the guy.”
Right now, Roman Reigns is getting booed out of every single building that he appears in, and it’s exactly what WWE doesn’t want. He’s being pushed as the top face in the company, and even more so since John Cena is out due to injury.
The problem is that fans don’t like having anyone pushed down their throats, and that’s exactly what Vince McMahon is doing with Roman Reigns.
“Stone Cold” Steve Austin knows that, right now, the fans are booing Reigns and he doesn’t feel as if that is the superstar’s fault. Austin has a lot of faith in Reigns and feels as if he is a “good dude” with the support of the men and women in the WWE locker room. The only problem is that, again, Vince McMahon wants to have Reigns succeed as the top babyface in the company.
“To me, it’s like Vince chose this guy and he’s sticking with him. Whatever the fans think, whether it’s the smart marks, or the casual fans, or the fervent fans, I don’t know. He’s sticking with this guy and I don’t know. He’s not going to pick another guy because he has so much invested in this guy, so he’s got to keep riding him, but he could ride him in a different direction, but you can’t back off the gas pedal. Babyface or heel, you’ve got to keep the pedal to the metal with this guy because if you don’t, he will become an also-ran immediately.”
Roman Reigns has not always been a babyface in WWE, but his time as a heel was when he was one of the members of The Shield. That was during the early days after The Shield made its debut and he was part of a dominant trio along with Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose.
If the fans are going to boo Roman Reigns, then WWE should give them enough of a reason to do so and have him go through with a heel turn. At WrestleMania 32, Reigns is going to fight Triple H for the WWE Title, and everyone from “Stone Cold” Steve Austin to Vince McMahon knows the fans’ reaction won’t be a good one.
